My first son was born almost 6 years ago with a RBPI. I gave birth to a 2nd son 1 year ago with a different OB and everything went perfect. My OB was aware of what happened during the first birth and made sure to take extra good care of me. To take precautions though, she did induce me nearly 3 weeks early and my son (at 3 weeks early) was still 8lbs 5oz.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I did not have a c-section with my 2nd son. I was only in labor for a couple of hours, pushing for only 30 minutes and he nearly shot right out---it was just obvioulsy a much better OB, hospital, labor and all.

Do I feel for you. My second child was LOBPI, and I went on to have a third last year via C-section, just like you. Everything went PERFECTLY!

I do have to admit that when they gave me the epidural in preparation for the C-section, I broke down sobbing out of the exact same fears you have: "What if it happens again? I am so terrified!" But it didn't happen again. In fact, after my daughter was born, the first thing I asked was not: "Is she breathing?" or "How many fingers does she have?" It was: "HOW ARE HER ARMS?!?!" (Answer: Perfect!)

A C-section is a very wise move on your part. It is safest for your child. Think about it: shoulder dystocia isn't going to happen when baby is lifted up and out, rather than coming out the normal way!

You probably will continue to feel freaked out until it is all over - that is normal. But you're doing the right thing. Keep us posted on how it turns out. And try not to worry too much.

Just had my second baby. My first baby was robpi. I had a scheduled c-section at 38 1/2 weeks and everything went perfect. Good luck and congrats!

My first child was born with a bpi injury, so was my second. However I know a few women who have had normal deliveries after a bpi child.

I know it was mentioned here that bpi can't result from a c-section. The chances of it happening are smaller however it can still happen.

Cindy, was it with the same Doctor? If different Doctor, was he/she aware of your problem with the first one.

I had my 2nd via c-section in december and it was wonderful. I thought the c-section recovery was 100% better than delivering a 10lb baby. Good luck

I am going through the same thing...I am due with my 4th child, via c-section on June 23. Our 3rd child suffered a bpi to her left arm 20 months ago. I have totally dominated my new ob, expressing everything and even stating that I know he will do what is best for me and the baby but I still do not have the trust there. This will be my first c-section and I am just so scared/nervous as the day approaches. It is comforting to hear other mom's who have had healthy babies after a bpi injury. Different doctor. The ob that I chose with Matthew was well aware of Melanie's injury. I started calling offices and interviewing them before I even got pregnant. I was supposed to have a c-section until he sent me for a consult with a high risk ob who said no c. The plan then changed to inducing early to avoid a large baby. Sounded ok at the time but learned afterwards that I had gestational diabetes and was not diagnosed. Matthew was 10lbs 6oz 2 weeks early. He was supposed to be around 7lbs 9oz according to the ultrasound. He had the same measurements at Melanie so I felt comfortable with being induced. Only problem is the ultrasound couldn't measure the baby's fat. He was born the same length as her just heavier.
