Wow, bravo guys! Pretty incredible video. As an adult who experienced tbpi, seeing little babies have to endure the same scars and braces that I have endured as an adult was heartbreaking. At least I can reason and understand the painful experience. I can't imagine what a little baby thinks.......
Hopefully this will help spread awareness of what a brachial plexus injury is and how simple it is to prevent birth injuries.

Re: Has everyone checked out the UBPN Videos?????
I was watching the long version of the spotlight on video yesterday morning while waiting for my husband to get home from work and he walked in sat down next to me and watched the last 12 minutes or so and I think for the first time ever, he understands my feelings about the birth of our baby. I have been anal for several years that I do not under any circumstance want an epidural when and if we were to have a family together. He would always tell me "we'll see when your in labor what you say then" Mind you he has two children from a previous marriage and has been through the birth process before. I also keep telling him I dont want to be stuck in a bed on my back to have a baby.
Well, now we are expecting in May and this video could not have had better timing. It has allowed my husband to truly understand some of the pain both a parent and an injured person goes through. He is very open to helping me have as natural a birth as possible so our son has the best possibility of not getting injured ad he is likely to be a very large shouldered big baby just looking at the two of us and our birth histories.
I am very thankful for this video! I now wonder if my OB would be at all open to watching this...We will begin discussing the birth plan at my next appointment in a week and a half. I am so glad my husband is on the same page as me now. This makes my wishes much more likely to be a reality so we bring home a safe healthy uninjured baby boy in May.
Thanks so much to anyone who donated $$$ to make the spotlight on a possibility! Thanks also Lisa M for doing all the behind the scenes work to make this a reality!
Hugs,
Amy 23 years old ROBPI from MN and mommy to be.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Daughter has global palsy (c5-T1 injury) 5 surgeries at Texas Children's by Dr
Laurent, Shenaq, and Nath. 1st Surel graft 2nd Intercostal transfer 3rd Latisimus Dorsi transfer with subscapular release 4th Pec release 5th Bicep lenghtening, (which weakened her bicep, and contracture returned.) Has went through serial casting with fair results. Her arm is about a hand shorter then the other. She has limited hand function. (able to grasp) Arm stays pronated. Unable to get to neutral. Now dealing with sternoclavicular subluxation. All that being said....She is very functional. She is a very determined, strong, tenacious young woman. Now 15. She plays the trumpet, french horn, drums, guitar, and now learning piano. Has always played on a softball, and basketball team. Until recently, for fear of further injury due to the sternoclavicular subluxation. (separation of colarbone from sternum) Not sure if all this is spelled right.

Re: Has everyone checked out the UBPN Videos?????
I love this video and am so very grateful that there are doctor's out there willing to speak up on this birth injury, and admitt that this is a doctor caused injury! Finally Validation!!! Thank you so much for producing this video and getting it out there for women and people to see. I have watched it several times, and will continue to watch it, ( My daughter ordered a copy of it). We love Dr. Price, and value his opinion, it is because of him and Dr. Grossman that my grand-daughter is doing as well as she is. They did her primary nerve grafting. And Dr. Kozin has picked up with the other surgeries. And with his help she is moving along nicely. We are blessed to have such great doctor's! We will be showing this video to anyone who will watch it!!! So again thank you, thank you, thank you!

Re: Has everyone checked out the UBPN Videos?????
First, It's great and I'm so glad it's been made. I would have liked to have included pain/sensation issues, paralyzed diaphragm issues, horners, heightened sunburns on affected side and the rest of the list, not to mention all of the possible surgeries, forced casting, estim. and endless therapy... I feel that is extremely important info. Not in depth for this video, but touched on.
