Any suggestions for support devices while typing?

Post by Brandy524 »

I'm a legal secretary and I've been noticing lately that while I'm typing my affected arm (left) starts to ache. My bicep cramps and my hand and wrist hurt. I was wondering if any of you know of any kind of support device, brace, etc. that could be worn just while typing. I've been trained in typing so I use proper typing positions (i.e. elbows and wrists elevated at all times) and holding my arm up is taking its toll. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: 28 years old with a right obstetrical brachial plexus injury. 5 surgeries to date with pretty decent results. Last surgery resolved years of pain in my right arm however, I am beginning my journey with overuse in my left arm

I use a mobile arm support for my right arm to rest on while I use my mouse. I also use it for crafts as my shoulder gets really stressed out from all of the compensation that I do.

I found a device while searching yesterday called the ErgoArm, and it looks promising. However, scraping together the $60 to get it might be a problem. ;)

My guess it that is very similar to what I use. I know the cost is similar. My insurance actually paid for it while I was in therapy. My OT ordered it for me and the insurance paid for it. Maybe thats an option for you too? It is worth every penny though, so much less pain!!!
