To those going to Italy to hear the world's bpi specialists present their stuff, I'm jealous! I hope you all have a wonderful time there and remember everything you hear, because I for one want to hear about it! In detail......
And Kath and Nancy....take earplugs, you'll need them if those Brits are anywhere near you in the hotel :0)

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Cheers Jenny, We'll keep the noise down alright!
We are really looking forward to this Symposium. Over 100 Doctors who treat BPI will be there from all over the world. I think it is a terrific thing that all these very busy people have given up their time to attend and to share and learn from each other. On top of this, they have to pay, too! Luckily, we don't, but then again, we are only observers in this.
Will post again when I get back

Re: World BPI Symposium
Well, I am going to my first bpi symposium! I am incredibly excited to hear what these doctors from around the world have to say. Americans tend to be somewhat provincial...I can't wait to hear what the "world view" of the treatments are.
I am not staying in the same hotel as Nancy and Kath and the UK bunch, but I am sure I will be able to hear the noise anyway!!!
I will try to remember as much as I can.
ciao!!

I am jealous too. Thought the international conference was only for the medical professionals, doctors. I did not know we could also participate. Do you guys have to pay to register?
Looking at the program, there will be doctors there from all over the world such as France, US, Taiwan, China, etc. It will be a great conference.
For those who are going, have a great trip!

We don't have to pay to go, other than our travel expenses - but we do need to be invited by Professor Gilbert of Paris - and only a few support group leaders are invited each time.
it's only the second time that support groups have been invited to attend, so it's still new territory for us all, but hopefully it will become a regular part of our BPi working life!
See you all Al Italia ladies!

Re: World BPI Symposium
It's great that Dr. Gilbert invited the support group leaders. I hope you guys will have a chance to ask questions and express your concerns on behalf of the BPI community. We always need new ideas on surgical intervention, timing of surgery, and non-surgical ways to improve the muscle strength and functions of our BPI kids. Please let us know what you learn when you come back from the conference. Thanks.
