Steve,
Are you looking where to buy, or what works best? What works best depends upon what is the extent of the injury, where pain is coming from, etc. Also if you are trying to preserve the shoulder capsule. Best to discuss this with a physical therapist. Here are some sites that sell slings.
www.shoulderpaincentral.com
www.supports4less.com
www.shouldersupport.orthobionics.net
Hope that helps...Karl...

This may be premature given how recently your son's injury was... but since John's shoulder is fairly stable, I wish we'd gotten him out of his sling a lot sooner than we did. So many months with the arm in front has kind of "taught" it to hang in front now. John's now having to work at keeping his shoulder back to help the arm hang more to the side.

So just a thought for down the road.

Take care,

Ellen

Steve, my daughter,23yrs, used Joslin Orthopedics..e mail is armsling.com.....they only have black and tan but found them a great relief when she was wearing it..however she is out of them now due to surgery and pt and her supination straps...are you coming to the picnic in Florida? I'm sure she would be glad to bring you one to try if you'd like. I also made slings for her out of all different fabrics and colors so she felt no so "out-of-it". let me know if you'd like to try one if youy're coming to the picnic. Each person has a little different need so..........Shelley

I'm hoping to attend the picnic, so thank you for your advice, hope to meet you there, not sure how my son is going to handle the picnic, he says he has no use for anybody or their advice except the person who is going to make him better or take away the pain, 21 is a tough age.

Yes, 21 is a very difficult age even w/o an injury. I have a 21 yr old son also. Hang in there and read and research as much as you can from the boards and be prepared to gather lots more info at the picnic. Everyone is so "more-than-willing" to be of any assistance that they can be, not to mention understanding and accepting. Maybe once your son sees everyone and hears everything they have gone through, just like him, he'll be able to destress a bit and start his own coping mechanism. We can't force anyone...Take care and we'll see you in March...............Shelley

Hi Steve,
We have gone through so many slings. We had them custom made for years. John is now wearing the same sling that Shelley wrote about. We ordered it through the internet from Joslin. It stretches and fits better. Good Luck! We bought the deluxe one in black and then beige ones also in the regular one.
