go meet him and see what you feel about him - your gut will let you know

the doctor thing is so personal - you can have ten that like him and ten that don't

come equipped with questions (written down so you don't forget - that happens when you see the doc in person! - nerves I guess)

and then go to another bpi specialist for a 2nd opinion...

good luck!

I talked with Dr. Grossman's nurse when I was trying to figure out what was going on with my son, and she was wonderful. I've heard people say they like him quite well. Like Francine said, go and meet him, only you know how you'll feel about him.

We saw him once many moons ago for a second opinion on primary surgery. It was a very positive experience for us. We liked Grossman a lot. He has a ton of experience and has been doing this for a long time. And kind of interesting, he was one of the first doctors to reattach an entire hand, pretty amazing. He took the time to answer ALL our questions and I had quite the list. Carmen his OT assistant was very friendly and helpful, and the office people are the greatest.

They use NMES on younger babies unlike some other places, and I took full advantage of it and TRULY believe it made a big difference. Carmen spent a lot of time with us regarding therapy stuff, positioning ideas, and how to use the NMES machine properly. Being that we were from out of state they decided to just give us a unit to take with us even before they knew if the insurance would even cover it, how cool is that?

Something to maybe consider, from what I think I know, Grossman really specializes in primary surgery. He doesn't do as many secondaries but feels many of his kids don't go on to even need them. Who knows??? I know he has worked closely with Dr. Price in the past when he was in New York and Price does a lot of secondary work. So if you are looking for secondary surgeries, I am not sure if he Grossman be the man.

And like everyone is saying, meet him and see how you feel, and don't forget to ask lots of questions. Good luck!

Hi Anthony

Welcome to the boards...

When dealing with bpi injury you will need to get more then one opinion before doing any type of surgery.

You will know how comfortable you feel when you meet the doctor...

For obpi meeting a specialist for the first time is very nerve racking... we seem to be unsure of the questions to ask... and some of the terms used are strange to us... and we are not use to talking about our arms...
One of the best things I did was to read all the material on the Awareness part of this site. Information on Newborns etc... I became educated and really began to understand the injury I knew how to live with but did not understand the medical terms...

Knowledge and Education will make your visit more productive...

hi My son has had primary surgery with Dr. Grossman and is scheduled for feb for secondary surgery with both Dr. Grossman and Dr.Price in miami although we live here in ny we fly to miami for all surgeries because that is where his team is. I feel very comfortable with him and my son has done well. but as everyone else said you need to go with your instincts they usually don't steer you wrong. Best of luck with your decision

I would like to know how your appointment goes. I live in Central Florida and have considered going to Dr. Grossman. I would be interested in your experience after the appointment. When is it scheduled for?

well My appointment is 1/21. My only fear is I never knew of this. I was always told if I tried hard enough my arm will be normal. WOW what a bunch of bull that was. I think my left arm is strong for my weakness, but there is a lot of pain lately. Finally out of my own search i stumbled onto this site, and what a relief
people who have been through this and have the same problems. The only thing is were actually getting info from ones with the same problem.(Wow I got off track)Anyway I needed to see a doctor and funny I live in Florida and there is a BPI specialist in the state, My only problem is that I don't have insurance and doctors won't see me what do we do when we have no insurance and there is so much pain i made an appointment but then they called and asked about my insurance and they didn't seem very excited to see me.
There has to be something out there ...Right?

Hello, My 20month is under Dr. Grossman's care. We are very pleased with him and his team. Go see him and see what you think. I have met other patients there (children and adults) obstetric and traumatic injuries. I'm sorry to hear about your insurance. I'm sure they will be happy to meet with you. good luck in your quest.
