It has been 4 months since Cole's botox injections to his internal rotators. I don't believe that I have seen the "wearing off effects", but it could be so slight day by day that I don't notice it. I am just wondering what may be some indicators that a 2nd round could be beneficial? How late/soon after the initial injections have you had the 2nd round? Why then?
As I have celebrated before, we have seen so much progress since his cast came off, but still no external rotation. Thanks for all you thoughts!
2nd round of botox?
Re: 2nd round of botox?
Harper had her 1st round at 6 months old (at the same time as primary surgery) and Dr. Kozin decided to do another round about 1 year after that. Unfortunately, even the 2nd round didn't help much with external rotation. Her shoulder was just too tight and not sitting in the correct position for it to work. She had ACR surgery last month and is actually in Philly right now getting physical therapy. She is no longer internally rotated
Hopefully this will not be the case for Cole and the Botox will work but I don't think they like to do injections too often or too close together. Good luck!

no external rotation against gravity, can only go to 90 degree fwd flexion, no hand-to-mouth
1 surgery at age 14 (latissimus dorsi transfer). In 2004, at age 28 I was struck with Transverse Myelitis which paralyzed me from the chest down. I recovered movement to my right leg, but need a KAFO to walk on my left leg. I became an RN in 2008. - Location: Montreal, Qc, Canada

Re: 2nd round of botox?
Botox wears off between 3 months and 6 months.. every child is different and yes, it is a gradual wearing off, so you wouldn't see it all of a sudden.
They can do Botox every 3 months at the minimum, they won't do it closer together than that.
Hope you get more positive results!

Re: 2nd round of botox?
Hi there,
Christopher has had about 5 rounds of botox to his internal rotators as well, and unfortunately, we will be undergoing the muscle/tendon transfer w/Kozin in January since the ACR didn't do it's job. His most recent Botox was early October/late September, and looking at the MRI, Kozin wasn't happy about what his shoulder looked like.
I think the botox has helped a bit to get him where he is today, but it's just not enough to keep his shoulder in place and give him the external rotation.
I may have spoken to you privately a while ago, but if you want, please feel free to e-mail me again and we can chat about it.
