They don't let me to drive!!!

Post by hopeless »

I am a right Obpi. I can't use my right arm. I applied for driving licence and got it. Before that I had got a report from a doctors' committe that allowed me having a driving licence. Here in my country to be able to use a car disabled people have to apply a committe again. So I applied but the committe of the same hospital decided that "This person cannot get a driving licence and cannot drive a car". Even if it is adopted. I am shocked! I have the driving licence but I am not allowed to drive a car! What is the case in your country? Can you give me any suggestion! I am really hopeless!

Dustin was required to take a special driving test. Then the regular written and road test again. It was because he had a TBI. He passed all the special things, is required a streeing knob and automatic transmission. Also a letter on file from the dr. Then 6 mo after all this they wanted another drs. exam, he had already been released by the drs. I spoke with DMV they agreed to let the dr. write a note that he had been released and they re-instated his license. Seems everything we try to get done is a struggle.

hopeless,
What country are you in? It seems very discrimnitory to deny you a right to drive if you are capable. I am also ROBPI and cant use my right arm to help drive but I have had my liscense since I was 16 and have never had any problems. I also don't have any adaptations to my car.
I would fight this!
Good luck!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I am robpi and have had no trouble getting my drivers permit or license.

I am sorry to hear that you can get a license and not be allowed to drive.

Thanks for your replies. It is very helpful for me to hear that there are same people like me but have right to drive a car... I will try to fight against this decision...

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

which country r u from ? I am also a TBPI of right arm. I also face a similar problem of licence getting denied in my country. They do not have any adaptations for driving with one arm.
