Dear Jamie & Gina

So sorry to hear about Jack's bad break. I wish you all the best for your recovery. Michael and I attended 6 week visit to Dr. Tonkin yesterday. While attending physio we were taken back by the tragic injuries that we saw on two young people. One young man, only just a little older than Michael had suffered terrible burns to his face, neck, chest and arms. His arms were completely covered in dressings in order to help his burns. While doing physio, he struggled to keep his hands and fingers from shaking and it was quite obvious that he was going through terrible pain and discomfort in order to do what the physio was asking him. He commented to the physio that he would have to wear the special bandages etc for the next 2 years until his skin could generate. Michael commented that I would have my BPI injury any day to being burned like he was. We also encountered a 17 year old girl who had been in a terrible car accident recently. She was with 3 other friends. One was killed the others including herself suffered terrible injuries. This young girl had had her left arm totally "de gloved". We later learned that "de gloved" means the skin being totally ripped from the arm leaving everything else exposed. She was being readmitted into hospital because she had an infection in the arm. She had to date 4 surgeries to try and repair her arm. The accident was only 3 months ago.

When we left the hospital, we both contemplated their injuries and really realised that there are a lot of people out there who have suffered terribly and maybe at the end of the day we are not so bad off. Yes our family has suffered a great deal in the past 2 1/2 years (I myself have had cancer and am currently free and clear, Michael's sister last November was operated on for scoliosis having steel rods put down her spine and again with Michael's injury)

Yes Jamie I agree with you we have been given a tough road to follow, but we are still all on that road and we keep travelling no matter what is put before us. They always say that there are people out there much worse off than we are and I totally agree. I have my family, we are all still together and through our love and support for one another we will make it through not matter what is dealt to us.

Regards Narelle (& Michael)
