I know I'm new to the boards and I just jumped right in. We're heading to Texas tomorrow for MOd Quad. Please pray that we'll get there safely and Michaela won't lose any of the hand function she's worked so hard to gain. Packing and planning these last 2 days has exhausted me and brought up emotions surrounding her birth that I try to keep under raps. I know as a christian I need to forgive the doctors for what they did, and to move on but when we go through all these experiences with Michaela it brings it all back to the surface. Most of the time I don't dwell on it, just happy she's here and alive at all. I tell myself that she's my one and only little gift from God and he's in control and allowed it to happen for some reason in her life and someday we'll know why.All I can do is help her be a survivor and pray I'm making the best decisions for her. Thanks for listening and all the info and support. LeeAnne Browning,Roger and Michaela

Re: PRAY PRAY PRAY!
Dear Leeanne, I know where you are coming from. It gets better with time but some of the feelings I dont think will ever go away this side of heaven. Keep your eyes on your Hope. He will never let you down, praise the Lord for His faithfulness. I'll be praying for God's blessings to you...Joann >
Re: PRAY PRAY PRAY!
Michaela and all of you are in my prayers tonight and until the surgery is over and you are all home safe and well.
Just a little suggestion... when I pray for the kids I always include the doctors and medical staff in charge of their care and surgery... and of course the family...
Prayers

Re: PRAY PRAY PRAY!
God bless you and your family, in these hard times.
I will pray for a quik recovery, and hopefully,
very little pain.
I have a prayer that A healing priest gave me.
I will tell you it now.
His name is Fr. Peter Mary Rookey, O.S.M.
He has helped many people, including me.
THE MIRACLE PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I come before you, just as I am.
I am sorry for my sins, I repent of my sins, please forgive me. In your name, I forgive all others for what they have done against me. I renounce satan, the evil spirits and all their works. I give you my entire
self, Lord Jesus, now and forever, I invite you into my life Jesus, I accept you as my Lord, God and Saviour. Heal me, change me, strengthen me in body, soul and spirit.
Come Lord Jesus, cover me with your precious blood, and fill me with your HOLY SPIRIT, I LOVE YOU LORD JESUS, I PRAISE YOU JESUS, I THANK YOU JESUS. I shall follow you every day of my life. Amen.
Mary my mother, Queen of Peace, St. Peregrine, the cancer saint, all you Angels and Saints please help me.
Amen.
God bless your child with her surgery.
Sincerely,
Debbie

Re: PRAY PRAY PRAY!
I will certainly keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. Why are you concerned about her losing hand function? Did someone tell you that was a risk? Nicole's (very limited) finger function has improved since her Mod Quad in March 01. I don't know what the post-op instructions are now regarding ROM, but make sure if they say NO PROM & to keep the splint on, that you ask the surgeon if it's okay to take just the hand part of the velcro strap off daily to do finger exercises and massage. When Nicole had the MQ, we were told that we could remove the splint daily and do some limited and very specific PROM instructions while holding the arm up. However, I know there have been some changes in post-op protocol (at least for the Capsulodesis surgery). When Nicole had the Caps. surgery 2 months ago, we were told to keep the splint on and not to remove it at all, but to just loosen it as needed to get to the incision for the dressing changes. Anyway, I later questioned Dr. Nath about doing finger PROM and massage daily and he okayed it (but just reminded me to be careful of the shoulder). I'm glad I asked and have been providing some movement and stimulation to Nicole's fingers. I definitely recommend that you check into this too (depending on what instructions they give you).
The splinting process takes a while, but the new splinting room at TCH (is that where you'll be) is very comfortable and there's a personal monitor with a vcr for each bed. So, if Michaela has a favorite video, bring it along to help the splinting time go by. We brought Bear in the Big Blue House with us!
I know that pre and post-surgery can be very difficult times emotionally. At these times, we pray even harder to strength and wisdom to get through it all.
Please forgive me, LeeAnne, I don't think I actually ever "welcomed" you to the board, so WELCOME! You will find a lot of helpful info. here. Take care and I hope the surgery goes well.

Re: PRAY PRAY PRAY!
Leeanne, my thoughts and prayers are with you, Michaela and the Doctors. Just a note... our daughter gained quite a bit more hand/finger movement after the Quad Mod. Best Wishes.

Re: PRAY PRAY PRAY!
Thanks to everyone who repiled. I was told by Dr. Nath that usually they go in where her original surgeon did to do her intercostal nerve grafts under the arm. He said there was a 10 to 15 percent chance those could be damaged. But as things go he made the incision about an inch over from the scar and none of the nerve grafts were damaged. Thank GOD. And actually praise the Lord, she moved a muscle in her lower forearm she's never moved and can tell me which fingers I'm "pinching" to check for color WITHOUT looking which is something new. I'm definitely impressed. Anyway Dr. Nath took great care for her to not lose any of the hand function she had already gained. I know they have to tell you the risk, but fortunately everything's fine.LeeAnne
