dynamic EL splint

Post by Tisha R. »

We are going to Houston on the 15th and they told me today she has to have a dynamic el splint and I am afraid that this is going to work against her. She is having botox in her tricep, so we can strenghen her bicep, that she can not use at all. Does anyone know anything about this splint or have any pictures?
Thanks,
Tisha

My daughter's doctor recommended a dynasplint for her, as well as e-stim. The therapist choose not to combine the two because of the strain it may cause. We start e-stim on Monday to build up the bicep muscles. Her therapist said after we strenghten the muscle then we will use the dynasplint.

We used the dynasplint to take care of an elbow contracture--which it did.
Not sure what exactly is going on with your daughter, but if there is a contracture involved, the dynasplint should benefit.

We used this splint for a while. Brittany is just not quite ready for it yet. She has to have the osteotomy in the LOWER arm. She is supinated from the elbow down. But the splint is great. And we used it at night only. The muscles have to be relaxed to get the benefit of what the splint is doing. It should not interfere with anything else since the muscles are relaxed at night. Just try it out. We tried it for a couple of weeks, talked to Dr. Nath several times about how was doing, then he told us to stop for now. I sent it back and there were not any problems returning it. Hope this helps.

I have a question, while the arm is relaxed with the splint on what position is the arm in bent or straight? Tabitha's arm is always straight she cannot bend it since she has almost no bicep and great triceps, so why would they recommend this splint for her? I'm just a little concerned I guess.
