Texas Children's Hosp - Dr Shenak

Post by admin »

I am looking for anyone in TX with information about Dr Shenak at the BP Clinic at TX Children's Hosp. We saw him today, and he is recommends Mod Quad surgery for our son. We are just beginning to get educated about all of this, so I would love any help in determining this doctor's reputation and I would like to learn more about what the Mod Quad is.
Thank you for your help~

Dr. Shenaq has worked with my daughter (age 10) since birth, and has performed four surgeries on her, including the mod quad. We live in Pennsylvania. While all children's injuries differ, our daughter has had wonderful results from these surgeries. He is a very good doctor. Best wishes.

Isn't he actually the head of the department at Baylor University?

I have a few friends who wouldn't see anyone else and are very pleased with his work. Maybe I can see if they will come here and post. Good luck.

HI Brenna,

My daughter had Primary surgery with Dr. Shenaq in May. He is wonderful, as is the entire TCH team. We are in Texas also. Feel free to email me at jmcash6896@msn.com

My 9 year old daughter Mikaela had the Mod Quad on the 16th of this month. We only had met with Dr. Shenaq one time prior to the surgery and that is when he gave us hope for our daughter. We live in Dallas and were never told by any of the neurologists, peditricians, even the PT's that surgery was available and that Texas Children's in Houston had a specific brachial plexus program! Mikaela has unfortunately had many "pains" associated with her injury(by the way-"caused" from birth) that have only gotten worse the more she has grown. We knew that it was too late for them to "repair" the nerves, but he explained that she would gain leaps and bounds by having the surgery. We are so very blessed by meeting the doctors at Children's and especially Dr. Shenaq. the procedure went smoothly. They did the Mod Quad and also shaved some bone(it had over-grown onto muscle, preventing her range of motion)from her shoulder. They know what they are doing, it is just they do not completely know what they are looking at until they go in. They found a large amount of scar tissue reting ontop of one of the nerves. Once removed they said it instantly began firing again. This was so exciting to hear!!! She experienced numbness in her arm since she was able to express it. The whole hospital staff was wonderful and they truly cared about Mikaela. I have been in the hospital several times in the past few years and it never felt as safe and caring as Texas Children's. I hope if you decide to let your son have the surgery your experience will be as good. Make sure you talk to the office staff about what to expect. We did not realize that "day" surgery meant a couple days in the hospital. Sincerely, H. Perez
