Again, I'm sorry I haven't been around. I've been struggling a lot with a deep depression. Caleb's birth and that trauma set it off and I haven't been the same sense. This time it really hasn't been because of the issues with Caleb, but rather because the chemicals are just now out of balance in my brain.
Caleb is doing OK. After thinking and praying hard we've decided we're going to have to switch Caleb to Dr. James in Sacramento Shriners. I've heard some really good things about her. I hope she can help him with his fingers. My hope is still that he will be able to extend his fingers.
He also is in need of speech therapy and, of course, I wonder how this relates to his injury. I think it's an inherited trait, though.
Other then that he's doing great! I hope to be more active on the boards again. Just trying to cope with getting healthy again and stuff like that.
Hope everyone is doing OK!
Love,
Kari Anderson and Caleb

Re: Update on me and Caleb
I hope you all are doing well. HOw old is Caleb?(LOve the name). I remember last year I just had my son and it was real hard. I was diagnosed with post traumatic stress dysorder on top of having anxiety since late teens. It was sooooo hard and I had a 41/2 year old to take care of. Zak was 11 lbs. It's been quite the year. I still have problems and I guess I always will. I am mostly sad. ZAchary is getting older and I notice things more. But he smiles and seems alright most of the tome. I worry about him and hope he takes things okay when he is older.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.

Kari,
Thank you for sharing.Take care of yourself.Alot of us parents have emotional and other issues that if we continue to deny and avoid taking care of ourselves too we will make everything harder not only for ourselves but for our children too as they have VERY strong "antennas" and sense things that we do not realize. I am an adult LOBPI with an adult multi-challenged son. I have had speech problems that crop up under anxiety and stress, especially in new situations.
Let's keep sharing and encourage one another.
Love to Caleb too.
Carolyn

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.
