Osteotomy???

My son Justin is 21/2 years old and was born with a LBPI. We have been seeing Dr.Waters at BCH since he was 4 months old. Justin has never had surgery and has done very well with therapy. In October, Dr.Waters recommended a tendon transfer procedure. We had an MRI done two weeks ago and now he is telling us he may need an osteotomy(I know this has to do with the bone).
He has significant deformity of the glenoid and may be borderline for a tendon transfer. I have not spoken to Dr.Waters directly yet but would like to know if anyone knows anything about this procedure for a BPI.
I am always reading the message boards but have hardly ever posted. I can't stop crying and would appreciate any information anyone can give me. Thanks, Melissa

Hi Melissa, my name is Lenni and I have a six year old Rbpi daughter who will be having surgery in March. She will have a Lastissimuss Dorsi and Tres Major, ( I'm not sure I spelt that correctly! ) transfer to her rotator cuff. Her surgeon hopes she will be able to lift her arm above her shoulder afterward. There are other tendon transfers though, you have picked a good site, there are allot of people who have been through many different surgeries. Good Luck and I hope you get it all clear soon.

Thanks for the info Rich. Dr.Waters emailed me this morning with a short explanation of the procedure. We will meet with him before surgery on February 28th. He advised me that the procedure, recovery and cast are the same as if he were to do the tendon transfer.
thanks, Melissa

Hi Melissa,
I hope you're feeling better and have had a chance to talk with your doctor some more. I have posted a few times about my son in the past, I'm just not sure you were reading the boards then.... Cole had muscle/tendon work done last March and his surgeon said it didn't give him enough release so they did the Ostetomy at the same time. It has benefited Cole with his external rotation, but he has lost some internal rotation. We're still working on it though. I would be happy to help in any way, with any questions. I know how difficult this is for you right now. Take care. Email me with any questions.
