Question for you

I hope no one takes offense to this question, your responses would help out a lot.
I'm Cindy mom to Melanie (4.5) and Matthew (3) (both right bpi).
I'm currently working on my MBA. Our group paper is focusing on hiring and retaining employees in small businesses. I have found research that supports advantages of hiring disabled individuals. Can you all shed some light on this for me. Give me your opinions, qualities you bring to the table? Any responses would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Cindy

Cindy, I don't have time right now to respond. I currently have three family members in the hospital. I just got home from the hospital and it is 3:30 in the morning! Once I get a break I will try and respond. Drop me a note via email or here and give me an idea of anything specific you would like to know.

Hi Cindy,
One thing I recently learned is that both government & government contractors are required by law to hire a certain % of disabled people. I was thinking my son (who was 15 when he had his bpi) ought to consider a career in city planning to make sure there are safer bike lanes as part of our road system! (He was on his bike & was hit by a car.)
Guess none of us would think of government as "small business" but the contractors might be... and of course, being required to hire disabled is good.
Good luck -
Ellen

Ellen,
I work for local government and problems there relate to those of small business at times.
Thanks.

Thanks!

Ellen,
The federal and state governments are more into making sure they use minority businesses, etc. The percentage normally varies on the population the agency is located in. I have no idea what the percentages are. When I worked for a food distributor, they were the prime vendor for the government. We had to have so many product lines in house that were minority business owned for them to keep their contract with us.
