rash from dynasplint

Ian has a rash on his arm where the foam insert of the dynasplint touches him (he doesn't like to wear pajama tops, he gets too hot). It is red and it is hurting him. Anyone else experience this or have suggestions? Not sure why this is happening all of the sudden, he has been wearing the splint for weeks. Thanks.

suggestion...if its irritation from the splint(but just on his arm? ) you could cut the toe out of a sock and put it on his arm to keep the foam of the splint away from his skin.. there's probly something you could put on it like polysporin or cortisone cream.. your best bet would be to get the doctor to look at it and find out for sure what it is...
must be the week for rashes, my anna has had one for three weeks and its spreading, off to dermatologist today..
hope this helps some..

Marg's answer to you is great - my input to that is that make sure you don't use too thick a sock - it might not fit well and you don't want to cut off circulation so watch Ian's fingers.
We also have good luck with Desitin - it works overnight usually with heat rash.
And the other thing is - you can put moleskin on top of the foam. We actually wrapped each piece of foam in moleskin. Moleskin is very expensive so ask the Dynasplint rep to do this for you. Part of your rental fee is access to the orthotist whenever needed and to make changes in the splint when necessary at no extra charge.
Another thing might be that the foam might just need to be replaced - maybe it is breaking down (maybe it has a protective layer that is gone now?) and you need new pieces?
good luck,
