Hi Some of you know I am pregnant. My daughter has bp. I started the Gestional Dietbetes Diet today. So far it's been hard. When I wasn't watching what I was putting in my mouth I felt like I ate better and less. I so far haven't been diagnosed with gestional dietbetes with this pregnancy. They are just taking action before it happens. I am 25 wks along and I haven't gained any weight. I have actually lost 16#. I quess not because I am sick or anything. I just cut our MT DEW and started to drink lots of H2O. I am sure it will get better as the days go by and I get into the routine of this new eating pattern. Thanks for listening

Hi! I know exactly how you feel. I was on the diabetic diet with all 3 of my pregnancies and it was not fun. Hang in there and just count down the weeks until you deliver. Will they take your baby early? My middle child (3yrs) has ROBPI and my 3rd was taken by c-section at 36 weeks. He was still huge 10 lbs 9 oz. even a month early. Best of luck to you! I don't know about your weight loss. I never had that problem(darn it!)LOL! Take care and hang in there. Heather in TN

Hey Nicki,
I know how you feel I have had GD since 26 weeks and am due next week. I also have lost about 8 lbs since the start of my pregnancy. It kills me also because I LOVE potatoes and pasta and don't really get to eat them. I also LOVE pop and had to stop drinking it also. I can't wait to have my baby, I have a date with a box of Krispy Kreme doughnut's ! LOL Good luck Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or want to talk.

Just food for thought here (no pun intended). Keep in mind that diabetics (gestational or otherwise) tend to have children with less lung maturity. This means that the earlier you deliver your baby, the greater the risk of them needing supplemental oxygen or similar items along that line. I'm not trying to scare anyone, but I just want all you moms and dads out there to have all the information you can before you deliver your next baby. Ask your doctor to check the baby's lung maturity (can do lung maturity by measuring the L/S ratio) or ask about giving Celestone of Betamethasone early on (usually before 34 weeks gestation to help mature the baby's lungs if you are planning on delivering early to avoid a large for gestational age baby. I say this to you all as a mother of a RBPI daughter (Amber) and as a RN who works in 2 labor and delivery unity. Just ask your doctor for information. It can't hurt! Good luck to you all!

Heather,
They are not intending to take the baby early as of yet. I have had no signs of any complications. It has seemed like a pretty "normal" pregnancy so far.

Re: Gestional Dietbetes Diet
The first week after starting the GD diet was hard. I was so sick all the time the only thing that helped was cake/cookies and poptarts. They took all my comfort foods away. I lost weight at first but by the second week I was much better, so hang in there. My son was delivered (per my request) at 37 weeks and weighed in at 9.2 lbs. I did have an amnio to check his lungs.
