I was wondering if any of you all have heard of " Vanamide, Urea cream, 40% "? Its supposed to be used for scars after surgeries. Someone mentioned it to me and said their Dr. prescribed it and I think its only available by prescription. Or, do any of you have other kinds you use that work well? Thanks.

Hi,
My doctor recommended Mederma, it's an over the counter cream. Ask the pharmacist they can show you where it is. Also the pharmacist recommended I put Vitamin E oil on it. So I switch off with both of them. Using each one, one time a day. It's been 8 weeks since my sons surgery and I plan on using both on him for a year.

Neosporin also now offers silicone sheets to keep over the scars (like Band-Aids) for aid in healing. They've just come out, and TCH recommended that we use them after Danny's last surgery.

Priscilla, my daughter used Mederma which is an over the counter cream highly recomended by doctors and pharmacists. We had also read about it here on the message boards. Mederma has really helped my granddaughter's scars after her surgeries, and the scars are barely noticeable now. It can be purchased at Walmart. It's a bit expensive but does a great job.

Thanks for replying. Ive heard of mederma cream and I checked it out at wal-mart. It is almost $15.00 a tube. Also, people tell me cocoa butter lotions and vitamin e and aloe, was just curious as to what you all thought worked best. I guess ultimately its up to me, thank you all.

I just started work for this Medi-spa and my doctor recommended Scarguard. I just bought some and am going to try it today for the first time. It is also silicone based. Not to scare you, however, Urea means (urine) so I would be a little leary using urine on my scar. I learned that back when I was a hairdresser. They use it in a lot of products. I'm not sure what the purpose of it is, its just kind of icky to think of.

Just this week we started using vitamin E on James scar around his neck area. It is the oil. After a few uses we noticed one morning when he got up that is was extremely red and irritated and welked. We are going to stop using it, and I never dreamed vitamin E would do him this way. Anyone ever had this problem?
