surgery dilemma

Post by admin »

My daughter is 6 and has really good function. There definately is more weakness in her affected arm and she lacks external rotation. Her doctor recommended doing a muscle transfer and releasing her contracture, believing that this will give her strength and improve the appearance of her arm. Although not many people notice , but she does hold her arm flexed most of the time. Her doctor feels that around the age of 8 that self image becomes a big issue and by doing this surgery now would spare her of some of that pain as she gets older. Any insight into this issue would be very appreciated. If you had the opportunity to improve the appearance at this age would this be an option. I reallly would love for her to make the decsion, but unfortunately it is in my hands. At this point she really does not feel any different. Do I go ahead with this procedure????????? Thanks for taking the time to respond!!
