Hey Keith, I've tried a few meds but the best one for me in neurotin, unfortunately it does not get rid of all the pain. Ask your Dr. he might up the dose of neurotin your on, that might help. But so far i don't believe there is a miracle drug, to get rid of the pain. Just ones to help keep it to a minimum. Good luck. Ed

HeyKeith, From my experience with trying different medication, your best bet is to stay on neurotin, maybe your Dr. could up your dose that might help. Unfortunately there is no miracle medication that will get rid of the pain, just some that can make your pain bearable. Good luck, Ed

Keith I have found that keeping my mind and body busy helps TONS with the pain. I got to the gym in the mornings and work out, its great, the damn arm doesnt even hurt and sometimes, if I am luck, it will not bother me much during the day. Getting the endorfins moving through out the body help a bunch! Hope this helps! Also I used to take Oxycontin, its strong but it helped me! Just a though!

Here's my two bits worth re pain meds: my son John (age 16) lost all 5 in Nov '02. By early '03 his pain doctor had him on daily 3600 Neurontin, 100 Amitriptyline (elavil) and 200 Topomax. It wasn't until the Topomax was added to the "recipe" that John got any appreciable relief. And as you've already read, staying busy/distracted goes a long way - and over time you'll build better pain management skills in general.
For what it's worth, after John's surgery (multiple nerve transfers) and evidence of nerve innervation (able to bend arm & make a fist), the pain has decreased a good bit... enough for John to reduce his Neurontin by half, completely stop the Amitriptyline & slowly begin decreasing the Topomax. (He's now on 1800 Neurontin & 125 Topomax). So if nerve surgery is on the horizon for you, you may ultimately get some pain relief that way.
Take care & keep us posted on how you're doing.

Methadone. I tried EVERYTHING. And then everything plus booze and still the pain was driving me mad. I started methadone for pain managment and I got my life back. For the first time in ten years I am happy, 75% pain free, I have a wonderfull woman in my life, looking forward to the future instead of being horrified of it. I was afraid I would never die, and now I am learning to enjoy life again. Methadone.

I am obpi and have had pain for years. I just wanted to tell you that I agree with Ronin. Methadone has relieved my pain. I wish I had found it years ago.

I havent even got to have my ct scan so i dont know if nerves are rip out of spine. If worst comes to worst and i get nothing back do u suggest amputation. Although i do have sensation from elbow up is that a good thing. thanks keith
