Hello Jennifer,
I am TBPI... my bp side is normally colder. Since I don't normally give my husband a straight answer about how I am feeling, he has learned to follow the clues of my body! If the hand is cold I am not feeling well. His second stop will be to my collar bone area... if it is swollen he normally stays away from me! LOL
I notice the cold when I have been too active, placed stress on the shoulder or neck, things like that. I can't for the life of me remember how old Peyton is...is there anyway to rest the arm today...prop it up on pillows, limit her range of motion?
Talk to your doctor about ways to help this problem. Hope she is feeling better today.
Joy

Hi, Jennifer. I know the circulation in the arm definitely reacts to extremes. We usually find the opposite though. If Nicole has a fever, then her left (BP) arm/hand is very hot -- which is definitely out of the norm for Nicole (usually her L arm/hand is colder than the rest of her body). At this point, I think I could determine if she has a fever or not by just touching her L hand (don't worry, I still check with a thermometer though LOL). I hope she feels better soon. Sorry, I don't think I really helped, but wanted to share our experience. -Tina

Hi Jennifer
Sorry to hear Peyton is sick...
I wake up every night! my arm is very cold! especially when I sleep... even when I was small that was a problem for me.
I had Horner's with the Erb's so my face and ear are often cold... I think it is due to poor circulation and even when I am typing my arm and hand will get cold....
some like Joy... Erica... I think Judy too complain of purple hands from lack of circulation.... My hand if much lighter very white compared to the unaffected side.
Just need to keep the bpi side warm when sleeping...
I am not sure but I think it is normal for the body temperature to drop while sleeping but with bpi the drop amounts to the arm becoming very cold.

Katie sleeps a little better after taking Kath's advice and adding extra warmth for her bpi side...butit is like Nicole's and goes to extreme when she is sick.
Hope Peyton feels better soon.

Matthew's hand was colder until we started acupuncture. About an hour after his first session his hands were the same temp. After surgery when he had a month off his hand was colder. Started treatments again and now they're back to the same temp again.

How old is Peyton? Our daughter is 5. She has a left bpi with Horner's syndrome. Since she was just a newborn her left arm has always been colder with less color, but if she plays outside(we live in Florida), runs around getting overheated, OR HAS A FEVER, her left Bpi side gets very red( flushed) and warm. In the last year it has started affecting her cheeks also.So basically in the cold it's colder and in the heat it's hotter. It was explained to me that the nerve damage causes decreased blood flow to the area which stunts the growth and affects the ability to maintain body temp. Hope this helps.Michaela's Mom

I was wondering the other day when I thought my baby felt warm and I checked her temp under the arm if it would not be as accurate on the bpi side. I know from working w/ stroke patients we were not supposed to take blood pressure on the affected side. Judging from the comments here, it might be less accurate - I should have done a test - next time...
Hope Peyton is feeling better.
