Carson is just about old enough (7mth) to try and use a sippy, which cups worked best for you?
By the way, I guess I might be putting the cart before the horse he has never even held his own bottle.
Our other children were off bottles by 1year so if I seem premature, that's why.
Thanks- Jamie
Learning to use sippy cup
Re: Learning to use sippy cup
Actually Jaime, you are on target. I started my BPI son on sippy cups at that age also. It was really frustrating for me cause it was too heavy for his small hand. Of course my son could not use his BPI hand very much so that had alot to do with it. I think I used a cheap snap lid cup with no suction control cause it was lighter and smaller. At a really young age I encouraged Aaron to hold his own bottle since I was going back to work and I knew no one was going to baby him as badly as I, so that is how he got practice. Good luck finding the right cup. I also remember emailing playtex the makers of the sippy cup with suction control and telling them about my son and that some babies are NOT able to use both hands so they need to reconsider their sippy cup style and redesign one with that in mind. LOL. I did not even get a response. Oh well.

Re: Learning to use sippy cup
Playtex makes a two-handled cup that works for my daughter. She can use it very well one-handed and, now that we have some biceps coming back, can grasp the thin handle with her bpi hand. As for heaviness, just fill the cup only partway. Hope this helps...

We used the avent sippy cups and bought the handles for them. Hannah actually did a little better without the handles after a couple of months. Good Luck!!!

I think you are doing this at a great time. Ella was off of the bottle at 9 months old. My oldest daughter was off at a year old.
I think the cups with two handles work well for beginners. Especially for a child with Erb's Palsy. It worked very well with Mariella and as she got used to holding the cup she was able to use a regular sippy cup soon after. For cups without handles... I always try different kids, but Playtex work best for me b/c the little tab inside doesn't fall into the cup making the milk or juice leak out. I found a 4 pack at Costco for a fair price. Good luck.

Avent makes cups with interchangeable parts. They have nipples and sippy cup tops that you can switch. The handles are removable and work with 1 hand or 2, which is nice during splint-wearing times. They come in both small and large sizes. We've been really happy with them.
