I have been starting to research this exact topic for the past few months. VERY, VERY interesting to say the least!

These darn guys are causing the sd in the first place and most of us have NO CLUE! I am so sickened by this, especially as such bogus research continues to be published only protecting the weathly and organized doctors. This happens in utero. Hmmmmmmm.....and why is it such an issue here???

I am TRULY hoping that some of us can organize on this one since it is the root of all evil as far as I am concerned. I have envisioned really focusing on organizing training for doctors on McRoberts, Suprapubic pressure, etc., but I am pretty much convinced if they would just get us off our sacrums (which historically we have ALWAYS done) then our birth canals could open up like they are designed too. Sacrums flat on beds have no space to give or move. Anterior pelvis (pubic symphisis) issue...my ***! (no punn intended :))

Posting anon for now due to legal reasons, but I am thinking a few of you know who I am :) I have an interesting video too, if anyone is interested in getting information about it. Also, individuals and little groups will have no true voice, but if we unite I know we can make a difference. Call me crazy, but I TRULY believe it. If anyone is interested in doing something about this, please post or start researching it yourself. When my child's legal case is over this is the one area I feel is KEY, but I know I can't do it alone.

Sorry Rich, of course I was on my back, and even after my baby was stuck, I continued to be placed on my back, like all the other moms I happen to know.

Rich, I am guessing you have seen the study by Gaskin (renowned midwife) and some OB/GYN's on the all fours and sd. MANY in the study and NOT one injured with a bpi. What I would do to have known what I know now.

This will really light the fire, but since I am considering another pregnancy I have been looking into this more and more. No rocks please.....my personal opinion based on searching and talking to some highly educated people with speciality in muscles, bones, pelvis, etc., is that we don't need c-sections, we just need to get the heck off of our sacrums. I am scared to death but from what I have learned I have more than plenty space to get my baby out if I would stop closing 1/3 of my birthing canal space by getting off my back. I am just so disgusted by all of this and how we continue to be misinformed and let down time and time again by the medical field.

I remember a poster by the name of Marymom and how I used to feel at times that she wasn't the brightest on some issues and a little too far out for me... I have come to learn that my thoughts were more out of ignorance and lack of information. Boy, did I have a lot to learn. It has been a long process and I still have a long ways to go, but I am shocked by what I have learned.

And how many of our bpi children were injured during forcep or vacuum deliveries??? Babies stuck because birth canals are not allowed to fully open, thus having to use forceps or vacuums too forcefully and thus hurting our babies. All of this is just crazy. Enough is enough!!!

Karen,
Do you happen to know or your husband if traction was being applied to your child's head before you were rolled on your side? Or if traction continued to be applied once on side, and did you have a contraction on your side?

i, too, was flat on my back and never once asked to turn over...too bad i didn't read this article before labor, especially squatting where you can be 20-30% wider. oh well, maybe this will help another person. I'm done having babies!!LOL

I labored much of the time on my side (ended up with a pinched nerve in my neck from that one)

but I delivered on my back. I would loved to have been moving about more...or to have gone to a different position.

I too, am done having a babies...

I was very suprised by my labor. This was my first child so I read everything I could get my hands on and even took lamaze classes. I wasn't sure if I wanted an epidural or not, but I knew that lamaze could help either way. (breathing and positions and such). Imagine my suprise when I got there at 9:30am on Monday morning after my water had started leaking and was told that I couldn't even get out of the bed again!! I labored until 10:30 the next morning when I was told I could start pushing. I had been laying on my back and side for over 24 hours without once touching the floor...they wouldn't allow it!! Anyways, once I started pushing I was never taken off my back at all. Every contraction I was instructed to grab behind my knees, and pull myself up and push with all my might. I had someone on both sides of me helping me to keep my legs bent and up towards my stomach (I am a large woman). I know this was long, but hope it answers your questions.
