Could someone fill me in on what kinesio tape is? I keep reading postings where people talk about it, but I have no idea what it is, when and where it is used, what its benefits are, or anything like that. Are there certain BPI kids who should use it, as opposed to others who shouldn't?
Thanks in advance!
Janet

We used kinesio tape to help with Matthew's winging scapula. When used he had increased range, his scapula was supported and more stable. When we started doing TES we stopped because it was too much on his skin (between the tape and adhesive from the electrodes). We saw beneficial results and plan to use it again someday.

I used kinesio taping post mod quad surgery.
It was used to inhibit movement of certain muscles to encourage movement of the others, similar to the way that botox works except that movement is still possible.
I had a reaction to the tape, however, so after a few days each time, it had to come off because I would develop a rash. But just a few days each time helped to make a difference.

I am TBPI and I used Kinesotaping in the begining right after my accident to help with the shoulder subluxation. It worked wonders. For me it was like someone was there holding my shoulder more in socket. Ask around at the therapists office for it. See what they have to say.

Janet,
We have been using the tape on our 3 yr old daughter. On her forearm the OT is using it to help wrist extension and slight supination. Her skin on the arm handles the tape fine. The OT also started taping on the back to stabilize the scapula and my daughter's skin got really irritated. Now she puts Milk of Magnesia on the skin first, lets it dry, and then applies the tape. This really helped.
