BPI and Torticollis

My 6mo old son might need primary surgery in a week. I'm wondering how that will affect his Torticollis. Does anyone know if the Torticollis gets worse after surgery due to the surgery itself or lack of stretching? Also, when can we resume stretching after surgery? If he has surgery it will be at TCH. Does anyone know of an PT there that is experinced with Torticollis as well as BPI? We have been doing myofascial techniques for stretching. Anyone familiar with that?

Janelle - it's important to contact your surgeon about the torticollis and on what to do (or the therapist there as well) because post primary you might not be able to do this stretching because of healing nerve grafts... (we were told that MFR was contraindicated until the nerve grafts healed - 1 year) but what you can do can be more passive...for example move the crib so that baby has to look in the other direction normally...or put a toy in the direction...or music in that direction so that it's the baby doing it and not someone doing it to the baby... understand?

So your other post about your doc... are you having communication problems? If so - contact lisa davis at lkdavis@texaschildrenshospital.org and tell her what you experienced and what your concerns are. It's important that they know if you feel that the communication is not what you expected so that they can remedy it.

Good luck with your little one,
