He doesn't want me to apologise for some of his comments so I won't but I just wanted to comment on the amount of anger a child can get along with this injury. It is something thay have to learn to cope with their whole life. He is only 12 and hasn't had as long to cope but I think it's great that FINALLY he is expressing an opinion....He may just not be as politially correct and I hope you can see his age in that....It is good for him to vent.
((((Hugs))))

Tessie - I think that his courage is commendable especially having him say that he is standing up for all our babies and children who can't express themselves yet. Good for him! He should be proud and I am very happy that he had the guts to do this. I learned a lot from him. Diplomacy comes with age and at age 42 I can't say I'm very diplomatic sometimes myself! He did very well for a 12 year old! He is passionate about his issues and verbalized them well! Good for your son! and you should be a proud mom as well! I hope that he continues in his efforts to educate us..
...and I'm also wondering if he's interested in a pen pal? We have a couple of boys who are interested I understand.

Jameson is entitled to his anger... Look at how I first reponded to restraint therapy... and I could have been more diplomatic on my first response...
Jameson just responded from his gut and 12 years of frustration trying to direct his arm and his arm refusing...
I posted I was forced to eat right handed... the doctors told my parents I was lazy and did not want to work hard and I was using my arm for sympathy... that was the thinking at the time... they argued over this a lot... I spilled my milk everynight! Eating became a battle ground... it was my last control.... so I did not eat... finally they gave up... I could never feed myself right handed I can't supinate... OH the dr. also said I could if I worked at it.... duh... I even try sometimes now just for practice and I get frustrated...
So he and I come from the exact same spot on this one...
Except I know that the parents are willing to try anything to get the babies moving...
Encouraging using the hand and arm and distraction by playing with the unaffected arm while getting the child to try is one thing and a form of mild restraint but any other form sends chills down my spine...
Jameson is a member of this community and he is allowed to vent. There is a great deal of frustration always with this injury but as we age we learn to cope better... or at least we try... OBPI children are challenged ever time they try to move they must try things several different ways in order to compensate for the loss -- adding extra frustration somehow is just not comfortable to me too.

I welcome Jameson's presence here on the message board, and I welcome his emotions along with his presence...THIS IS THE PLACE to share, and I am glad that he feels comfortable enough in these virtual surroundings to express himself fully.

Are you referring to the post under "Restraint Therapy"? I have to tell you I was VERY impressed with what he wrote! He did a wonderful job saying what he felt. Political correctness can be highly over-rated!
This injury is frustrating. It does make you angry. There are times I get so ticked off about it I could scream. I have been dealing with my BPI for 10 years. While I don't dwell on it like I did in the beginning it still gets the best of me at times. I personally can't imagine having my right hand/arm restrained to try and get my left one to work. I know for myself my effected side pretty well has a mind of its own! Sometimes it gets the message to work and other times I get a busy signal! No matter how often I send the message!
I think he should post more often! Be proud that you are raising a child that can voice his opinion without being rude or resorting to name calling. Good job!
