has anyone heard of this drug? Our local MD has told us to ask for it. Not a narcotic, but originally for epilepsy. Just wanting to know if anyone had success using it.

Re: neurontin
Hi Teri,
My dad is on Neurotin. According to my dad's specialist, this is the pain relief for nerve but is very expensive.
Take good care.
Cheers,

Hi~
Yep, tried it! It is expensive but my insurance paid for it. I'm no longer taking it. I was on such a high doseage I was taking 4500 mg a day and even with that the pain was not gone, just not as intense. But I had to take 15 pills a day, I was running to fill it every 3 weeks and it was hard remembering if I took them. Plus being on that high of a dosage I was forgetting things, not caring about too much and lost my sex drive. I was kind of in laa laa land. I know its not a narcotic but weening off it was the hardest thing I had to do with this injury. I went through withdrawl and the pain came back-FULL FORCE!! I cried all the time and never left my house for 3 weeks! But I'm over that now and still drug free. Not for everyone but for those that it is-CONGRATS!! I wish it worked for me! Good Luck~Kathleen H

Re: neurontin
I am on on 3200mg a day (it doesn't make me tired or forgetful)for full avulsion of nerves to left arm and loss of right arm and shoulder. The pain on amputated side was uncontrolable at first and I actually had no pain on paralysed arm side at all for the first 3 wks. It then made a dramatic turn around and it is by far the worst side now. At first the Nurontin didn't help much but now 18mths after accident I can definately tell when they are wearing off. Pain still unbearable at times though. Just starting taking Tramal when desperate and apart from making me feel a bit ill and affecting by waterworks a bit I think it takes the edge off it. Does anyone have any experience with taking Nurontin while pregnant. It's a way down the track for me but don't see how I will cope without it.
Re: neurontin
avulsions here too, neurontin didnt help with pain

Gayle~
DO NOT TAKE IT IF YOU ARE EVEN TRYING!!!!!!! I am still having children and after reading and researching more on the drug it cause deformities in the skull if you even have it in your system when you are in your 1st trimester. I'm not sure if your aware of how long it takes to be weened either. I was up 4500 mg a day and it took 2 1/2 weeks to be weened off of it and even after that the doctors told me to wait another month before trying. Its a powerful drug, be careful. And if your going to nurse you can't take it. Good luck:)
We are trying for our 4th!!!

Re: neurontin
My son was put on it for pain and it did help the pain at all. After he read that it can become additing he got off it.
It is a very powerful drug, read everything you can on it. For some it might help, but for Ryan it didn't.
Good luck,
Karen

Re: neurontin
I was on neurontin for about two months. When I got the flu, I didn't take it for 3 or 4 days so I didn't return to taking it again. I am still working so I couldn't keep falling asleep every day. I'm a bookkeeper so you can imagine. Also, I couldn't concentrate. Basic every day things went fine. But when I had a problem, forget it. I'm trying tegretol now. I haven't fallen asleep yet.

Re: neurontin
I'm with Gayle, Neurontin doesn't have all the negative side affects for me and I'm on 3900mg a day. I was on that and enough narcotics to easily kill a horse and I'll tell you that for me Neurontin alone is a far lesser evil as I am now driving 60 miles each way to college, and on narcotics I'd be doing well to sit up staight on the couch and read two magazine article in a whole day.
So each to their own, I wish there was a cure; there isn't for me apparently, but neurontin seems to help.
