here's some questions you might ask....
(1) what specific surgical procedures will be done at this time and why?
(1a) is there a specific technique you will be using and if so, why?
(2) what tests (scans/xrays, etc.) need to be done prior to the surgery ?
(3) what are the short term and long term gains/losses from having this surgery OR from NOT having this surgery?
(4) will this procedure have to be redone a 2nd time? and if so, why?
(4) how long does the surgery take ?
(5) what is the post-surgical immobilization like? and for how long?
(6) what are the post surgical therapy protocols ?
(7) what other modalities will you be suggesting post surgery? (for example, bracing? estim?)
that's all I can think of right now - I'm sure other people will add to this list....
Maia had the capsulodesis because she was dislocated. It was a repair for her dislocation. She had posterior laxity of the capsule - Dr. Nath tightened the capsule by cutting it and sewing a flap tighter.
Then Maia was injured at day camp (someone lifted her up by her arm) and she had a stretch injury and was re-dislocated. So she had the procedure a 2nd time. But this time it was done differently -with a purse string stitch. She wears a David brace (

We will be having a 3D cat scan done on Monday to see what the results are.
hope this was helpful,
