About the Speakers

Patricia Martin, P.T., Certified Kinesio Tape
Instructor, is currently manager of satellite services
at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation Children’s Hospital
for Rehabilitation. She is pediatric NDT trained. She
has taught pediatric taping courses nationally.

Audrey Yasukawa, O.T., Certified Kinesio Tape
Instructor, is currently a pediatric resource clinician
at the rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. She is pediatric
and adult NDT trained. She has over 20 years experience
with upper extremity casting.

Course Description
This two-day course is designed to provide physical and occupational therapists with a specialty in pediatrics with information and instruction on Kinesio Taping methods.
Kinesio Taping is a method of treatment for musculoskeletal
and myofascial disorders and edema control. This method
can be used during physical activity and in conjunction with
many other therapy techniques. Attendees will gain insight
into theory and taping techniques for a variety of concerns including joint instability, muscular weakness, abnormal
alignment, pain, and inflammation.

The first day offers information on basic techniques and
application of Kinesio Tape for the neck, trunk, upper and
lower extremities. The second day will focus on more
specific taping methods and advanced concepts in Kinesio
Taping. Discussion on the use for the various diagnoses
seen in the pediatric population and case presentation will
also be included.

Course Objectives
For
Kinesio Taping in Pediatrics:
Fundamentals and Whole Body Techniques

Upon successful completion of this course, participants
will be able to

· Explain the concepts of Kinesio Taping.

· Discuss the difference between rigid and
Kinesio Tex applications.

· Apply the learned skills of Kinesio
Taping techniques in the lab sessions.

· Demonstrate an upper and lower extremity taping method.

· Identify the benefits of Kinesio Taping for the
pediatric population with CNS dysfunction,
brachial plexus injury, and torticollis.

· Describe the key components of a comprehensive therapy program to be used in conjunction with Kinesio Taping.

· Have a basic understanding of developmental biomechanics and anatomy, as they apply to the treatment of the pediatric population.


The Kinesio Taping association has approved this course as a KT1 And KT2.
