Scheduling the flight home

Post by Kara »

My son is having the mod quad surgery in Texas on the 28th of October. I made flight arrangements to catch a 4 pm flight on the 30th. We wanted to get home as soon as possible. You know, to be around familiar things! Am I pushing it? It's the latest flight they had and I spoke with someone in Texas (can't remember who)and they siad a 4 o'clock flight would be ok. But now that I think about it.. I heard that there is a splint fitting on the last day at the hospital? Will we even make it?
I was just wondering if anyone had any insight on what actually happens on the day of release?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Kara,
Your plan sounds good to me. I would have done it the same way. We have had two surgeries in Texas. The docs are great at letting you stay in the hospital until you leave for the airport.
Blessings,

Kara - when you get to your room and the nurse comes in - let her know at that time when you plan on leaving the hospital so that she has all your paperwork, prescriptions, etc ready for you for when you leave. Also - on the day of splinting - let the therapist know when you are leaving so that an early splint check is made.

We've taken that same flight out the last two times and it's been great. No problems as long as the hospital staff knows and can prepare in advance for it.

The hospital no longer gives you filled prescriptions when you leave - so make sure you have some tylenol (or whatever you use) in your purse just in case there's a need in the airplane, etc. And when you get on the plane you can board early and snap a pillow and blanket asap, and ask the attendant for a bottle of water. Hydration helps.

Good luck!!
