sorry if i posted in the other forum, i did not read the description carefully.
My name is Andre and I'm 16 years old. Well I went inside my friends car and he asked me if I brought my wallet with me. I said that I forgot and went outside in the middle of the road to go back to my house to get it. From there some guy hit me going around 40mph.
I got some bumps and scars around my body, but the most serious injury I have is damage to my brachial plexus. After I got the MRI I was told that my nerves were streched and not torn.
This is getting me really depressed because participating in school has become impossible because I cant move my right arm. I'm wondering if I will recover from the injury because my doctor refuses to tell me if I will or what my chances are. So I'm hoping you guys could tell me what to do and what to expect. thanks.

I am sorry to hear about your BPI! They are no fun! I am23 and know what you are talking about! I am in college full time and it can be challenging at times! Have you seen a BPI specialist yet? I think thats your best best! Check the medical panel on this website, its helpful! What state are you in? Feel free to email me with any questions!

I live in Southern California. I'm supposed to go to a BP clinic in a Kaiser Permanente Hospital on the 25th of October. I don't know why its scheduled so far from now. I just want some answers, none of the doctors would give me any about my recovery. Most of what I know about the injury has come from reading articles on the internet.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

In addition to what I said there I would add that being able to move your fingers already is a GREAT sign. I hope you are doing some exercises to keep all the joints moving freely, especially those fingers-they 'freeze' up very quickly if not stetched several times every day, if you don't do this your nerves may recover but your joints may have stiffened up irreversibly. Has your specialist suggested any form of therapy for this? It may seem boring and pointless but it's vital to maintain the range of motion in all the joints.

Depending on exactly what type of injury it is, what nerves are streched or whatever, depends on what they can do for you! You want to get an appointment ASAP with a BPI doctor! You said that your nerves were just stretched right? Thats better than avvulsed! You have a better chance for recovery. Do you ahve a chat service to chat on the internet? yahoo? aol? msn? Just on the range of movement subject a handy thing to get is a shoulder pulley that you can throw over any door. Its not expensive and you can pull your arms up in all directions for as long as you like to keep the joints loose. Any physio/physical therapist shop or your physio should be able to tell you where to get one.
