I saw Dr teil in dec99. I had a surgery there then and have been back for checkups afterwards. Dr Teil is a very comforting and informative. I believe he takes a more conservative approach to treating bpi's. And he usaully gets results. Unfortunatly for me I didnt get any change. I do think he is one of the best in the US and I agree with his more conservative approach. One thing i wish I had done before I went was to have a better understanding of the nerves of the brachial plexus so I could relate better to his treatment ideas. So arm yourself with knowledge! Good Luck

I completely agree with John regarding everything about Dr. Tiel. The most difficult thing for us was getting an appointment there so you are lucky to have gotten one. They were the last to respond to my inquiries. My son had surgery there about 4 months after his injury (2000). We went on a Monday to clinic and Dr. Tiel scheduled Eric for surgery that Wednesday. He had nerve graft and intercostal nerve transfer surgery. Got released from the hospital on the 4th day after surgery so be prepared for that possibility. We went down on a Saturday, enjoyed the city for a few days, did the surgery, and then stayed one additional night after release from the hospital. On the return trip the airline couldn't believe that we were putting Eric on a plane (he was pretty drugged up). Also make sure you request wheelchair assistance at the airports and try to get first row in coach on the plane so you have more room. We are going back for follow up Nov. 3rd. When are you going to be there? We initially had appt. for Oct. 20th but they cancelled it about a month ago (I made the appt and all the arrangements about 8 months prior and it was a real hassle and cost me extra money). He is going to hear about it when we're there.

All in all though we made the right choice.
