ant cap release

we saw dr kozin after camp. jacobs mri shows his posterior dislocation is 50% but the #1 problem is jacob's age, he's 9 yo, and dr kozin said he is old for a release but he also said he felt that the surgery would help. then maybe or not he would still need the osteotomy later. has anyone else had the ant cap release close to this age and what were the results? any loss of reach/motion overhead? jacob wants the osteotomy to help straighten his arm but i want to try to help the shoulder first. i would appreciate any info you have. thanks angela

hi - cindy (m&mmom) will probably be able to connect you with other families whose children had this procedure done.... matthew just had his done today so I'd say give her a bit of time to get home and re-acclamated.

Our son is 8 years old. He just had his mri last Wed. at Temple Hospital. I know he is dislocated. He's had 2 caps surgeries at TCH already. Dr. Kozin also told us that our son may be too old for the anterior release but he wanted the mri done to see what's going on in his shoulder. These are very hard decisions.

Hi Angela,
I do know of a mom who I was fortunate enough to meet when Matthew was at Shriners for his surgery yesterday.
Her son is 7 (there was also a 7 year old girl who had surgery yesterday). Please email me your email address and I'll pass it along for her to get in touch with you. I also know a mom who's son had the caps done but he dislocated again shortly after the surgery. His humeral head actually formed another socket. He had this procedure done in Boston and it's been some months since surgery and he's doing great.
I spoke with Dr. Kozin a bit and he said that they are having incredible success with this surgery.
