We are going to have Blake's capsulodesis done on January 28(Monday) and wanted to get some things straight because I'm hoping to get some travel plans laid out this week. Lisa T. said 2 night hospital stay so I was planning on him staying mon and tues nights and getting out Wednesday...did you all leave to fly back home Wed., or fly out Thursday? At his MQ, he only stayed 1 night(he was a real trooper), so I was trying to be realistic about our travel plans. Don't want to book to go home too early, but yet don't want to stay in TX longer than I have to,(ecspecially since my 16mo old will be here in Illinois with Grandma)

Opinions, anyone? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year!

Hi! We just had capsulodesis done December 10th.

We went on Saturday, surgery was Monday. Maia was in the hospital Monday night and Tuesday night.

Tuesday they made her splint.

Wednesday morning they checked and made some modifications to her splint. We told everyone in advance when we needed to be discharged by.

We left the hospital at 11 am and had a 1:15 pm flight home.

Maia does better at home then in a strange place so we figured it would be best to just come home.

just one opinion....

good luck!

Nicole just had the Capsulodesis 3 weeks ago. We arrived in TX on Sat, surgery was on Mon, splint made Tues am, discharged from TCH Tues afternoon, stayed at hotel in TX Tues night, returned to OT Dept for a scheduled outpatient appt to check splint, flight home 3pm. Dr. Nath told us that we would prob. be discarchged Tues and he was right. However, I'm glad we planned to fly home on Wed anyway b/c I felt better staying in town the extra day and having the OT dept check the splint again before traveling across the country to go back home. We just scheduled an appt. with them once the splint was made on Tues. I discussed this with Dr. Nath too and he said it was a good idea to see them on Wed. Personally, our travel plans worked out perfectly. If you decide to book a Tues flight (and later changing to Wed if necessary) I would recommend getting as late a flight as possible so you won't be too rushed. Also, tell your nurse your travel plans so you get to the OT dept early and so that you don't get held up waiting on a prescription. FYI, the splint process takes longer than it does for the SOL splint (it took appr. 45 minutes or less for them to make the SOL splint for Nicole and about 2 hours for the cap splint), so you will definitely have to factor that into your travel plans too. Also, fyi, I know every child is different, but Nicole had more pain and a tougher recovery with the Cap. than she did with the MQ (9 months prior). The new rooms at TCH are beautiful and the couch turns into a double sized bed so you will not likely need to keep a hotel room that night(s). Also, we flew Southwest. They have some special fares going on if they're an option for you. They fly into Hobby which is closer to TCH than Intercontinental. Feel free to email me if I can answer more questions for you. Best wishes for everything to go well with Blake's surgery. It must be difficult having to leave your 16 month old at home. Take care. -Tina

We'll be there for surgery on the 29th!

WOW - another family with the same surgery in the same week! I don't know why that suprised me - but it did. We are flying out on Monday, January 28th - surgery is the 29th - we check out of the hospital on the 31st - and our flight leaves at 1:30 p.m. the same day - Cassidy does much better at home!

Email me if you need any other info - this will be our 3rd trip - we're turning into pro's (unfortunately!).
