Weight bearing and bone density

Post by admin »

Thank you everybody for your kind replys to my earlier post. I have since discussed thiswith my daughters therapists and they think it would be highly unlikely that she has craniosynostosis. She thinks the most probable cause is that when my daughter was learning to crawl she would use her head to compensate for her arm.My therapist explained that wieght bearing increases bone density and that is probably what has happened. Has anyone else come across this. I am feeling a little calmer now and hopefully I will know for sure when we go to the Dr. Thank you all for your kind words and support I would like to email some of you directly but my husband uses this computer more than i do.I cant really speak as freely as i would like to.

I believe I missed your earlier post so I havent a clue as to your description but I havent yet seen a child's head larger as a result of compensating for their arm, that I was aware of I mean...
but that doesnt mean diddley because I havent seen alot of things-
just sharing my personal experience and hope yours will show me a new one

I have never heard of a baby compensating for their arm with their head when crawling and cannot figure out what the therapist means by this. Can you elaborate please? I'm baffled by this concept. -Tina

Before my daughter had surgery she couldnt weight bear so she would get her knees up under her and put her head on the floor and slide forewards. She was very determined to get around. She still had a tendancy to use her head to steady herself for climbing up on the furniture for example its kind of hard to explain. Although she can weight bear very well now she still resorts to this weird compensation now and again.
