Cleaning the frig... discovery... and not thinking

Post by Kathleen »

This morning I was cleaning out the frig... I have a side by side and usually I wait until my husband is around to help with lifting... But I have just finished PT and felt very strong. So.... I took out the bottom drawer of the freezer and cleaned the right side of the wall and track... I took the sponge put it in the right obpi hand and discovered.... my arm would not go into the frig with the elbow sticking out.... I did not know if I wanted to laugh or cry... I never once thought of it... I always had a frig with the top refrigerator and bottom freezer but this big side by side held more food so without thinking I bought it... it never dawned on me that the freezer would be to narrow for my arm to go into to clean... but I got a tool twisted around and did it.... yeah ((((((>>>>>> clapping for me....

I sat down on the floor look at the narrow space and wondered why after all these years being obpi --- I never thought of it as a possibility... guess you live and learn...
From now on I will leave this task to my husband...LOL... good excuse...

It pays to think ahead when buying appliances...

I actually thought it was funny - because at my age you would think I would know to look at something and think about the fact that I might not be able to do something....

But instead I just assume I can do anything and learn the hard way.... LOL.... it is funny... it was a hot day so why not get stuck in the freezer... LOL...
I just never thought when I bought the frig that it would be a problem...

Now I know why my Mom told me (when I first got married... ) that top frig's were the best and wall ovens where what everyone woman should have.... she always avoided saying I might have a problem or that I could not do something because of my arm...

Ahhhh, but Kath you did do it; you just had to go about it a different way!
I think it's still a good idea to make Ralph clean the freezer, however :o)

Thanks for the great story Kath!
The reason you got stuck and didn't think of this beforehand is that you don't think of yourself as someone with an injury, it is just part of you and that is a really good thing!

Well Kath - you had the perfect "I guess God didn't intend for me to clean out this fridge..." excuse but went and blew it with finding a way to do it yourself anyway!!:) God gave you a sign and you chose to ignore it??!! LOL

It's a bummer to start a project and not be sure how to finish it though - I'm glad you found a way to do it.
Thanks for sharing your discovery - I guess that there will always be new dilemas - even hiding in refrigerators!

I guess I have to learn to give up... duh can't do it!
I don't have a back button I just can't quit when I start something way to stubborn.

I just had to find a way to finish and I did...

It proves I can still figure out a way to do what I want to do... It reves up my creative juices... and at my age I don't want to lose the edge... LOL...

The next time I buy a refrigerator I will go back to the top frig with bottom freezer... they are wider and I fit my arm in elbow up and all... LOL...
