I am great at spelling. I was always winning the spelling bees as a child. I have good taste in art
but I'm no artist! I'm LOBPI.

I posted the following on the General Board. But you know I have mentioned this many times before. I am right obpi and forced to use my right hand to write. I have Horner's and wonder if the focus problems and loss of dominate hand caused this problem for me.
If we cannot remember we have a hand when we fall to save ourselves, how can we write words we memorize. If the message from arm to brain and brain to arm is a bit scrambles... or am I just a bit scrambled. LOL... just thinking out loud....
I am 63 right OBPI and have always had a major problem with spelling. I went to a very competitive high school and due to the problems I had with spelling failed English for 4 years straight. It was all realated to spelling. I discovered when I began to type on an electric typewriter that I spelled better. Both of my parents and all of my sibling were great at spelling and did everything in their power to help me. I started writing with my left hand and it was assumed that I did so because the right was injured. I was forced to write with right bpi hand. I will never truly know what hand is dominate. I have Horner's so the right eye is affected. The tests for which foot etc do not work because the entire right side of my body is weaker and my right leg is affected also.
About a year or two ago many adults on the OBPI adult board posted about spelling problems. Many said they did have a problem - I wonder if those who lost their dominate hand were the ones with the spelling problems. I love words and vocabulary was never a problem nor was reading. Just spelling!
I am artistic and earned my living doing payroll accounting so business math was not a problem.
When I was in school I had difficulty taking notes off the blackboard. I would leave a word out so my Mother taught me to count the words in the sentence. This of course slowed me down along with the problem of trying to write with my bpi hand and the cramps in my arm and hand. I often have to use spell check because I lack confidence in my spelling and worring about words. I will re-read a post and then notice I left a word out of my sentence... I find that very frustrating at times. I am sure this is also related to vision and focus and the difficulty I had in school.
Often the teacher would be annoyed because they felt I was slacking off and not doing my work. I was told I was lazy and did not work to reach my full potential. I am much older now and no one would ever call me lazy... hyper active perhaps but never lazy. They had no concept at how difficult some things were. Perhaps I was so focused on penmanship I failed to process the notes I was writing or it could be due to fact I lost my dominate hand.
Each of my hands have assigned tasks (thanks to my Mom) It was the only way she could force me to use both hands.
I wonder if it is related to Horner's and focus problems with my right eye. I have been reading about many focus problems creating difficulties and even ADD problems with children...
Nancy I know is a good speller but others I know have the exact same problem I have. This would be and interesting study. Alex is also good at spelling but did you loose your dominate hand? I wonder if that is the real issue?
I wonder if it goes along with forgetting we have something in our hands...???
just my two cents... lack of ability to spell can really inhibit ones freedom of expression. Art on the other hand is something that has no rules or limits.

I had a theory that LOBPI would equate to poor spelling it would appear not to be the case from the few answers I have. Those of you with poor spelling how long were you deprived of oxygen at birth. This could be the factor.
