Additional Problems
Additional Problems
My daughter is 2 1/2 and has a LOBPI. She has had some miraculous recovery with no surgeries to date. Recently, we noticed that her left foot is starting to turn inward ever so slightly. I contacted TCH and was informed that sometimes the spinal cord is damaged more than what was initially thought and problems begin to surface in other areas as the child gets older. My Pediatrician has given me a referal for a Orthopedist to evaluate the situation. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced problems similar to this?

Re: Additional Problems
My daughter has a slight toeing in on her BPI side. Her PT explained that the arm use influences her trunk use, which influences her leg use, and foot... An imbalance up top can bring on an imbalance below. We work on strengthing the trunk muscles (my dd is almost 3 now), and balance. I hadn't heard the spine injury perspective, but let us know what you find out.
Re: Additional Problems
My son Michael did the same exact thing at the same exact age. Eveyone kept on eye on it and he out grew it by the time he was three. He is six now and you would have never known. It was suggested to me that the good stiff walking shoes for young toddlers with the high ankle is suppose to help keep the foot straight. It must have been true since that is all he wore and he is fine now. Good luck I am sure she will be fine with everyone looking out for her.

Re: Additional Problems
Maia had orthotics for sometime to help turn her foot out. We stopped wearing them for a while because they started blistering her foot...but I think we're going to start up again soon. It was VERY helpful. PT can evaluate for this.

Thanks for the Responses!
Thanks to everyone for your responses. I feel better. It is wonderful how everyone is sooo supportive. On June 16, Kendall is going to have an evaluation with an OT and a PT. After this evaluation, I will see what steps I will need to take. I am going to contact TCH again today and see if they recommend seeing a Neurologist. Also, currently, Kendall does not wear shoes that go over the ankle but that is a good idea because her intoeing is just slight but enough for me to notice.
