Hi Nana, did you contact Children's Therapy Center? What happened with that? Yes, as Francine said, we will be there the same week. Clinic on Monday and surgery on Tuesday. We're staying that Crowne Plaza. No need to rent a car. Call Robert Soto (see previous posts...not too long ago). He's really great and much better than the cabbies. Everything is close to the hospital. From Crowne Plaza the hospital is right there. If you need to go anywhere out of the area, the public transportation is great. The hotel also has shuttles to places around town for a nominal charge. As for flights, send an email to
tami@ubpn.org and she will help you out. But please checkout Francine's website. All you need to know is there. I look forward to meeting you and the others that week.

We stayed at the Marriott when Matthew had mod quad. It was great. We did rent a mini van though, where we live we're used to having a car for everything and just can't get away from it. Matthew was RUNNING around the day after the surgery.
Good luck.

We lived in Texas when our son (ROBPI) had mod, but I can tell you that he did great. He was up eating fries about 1 hour after surgery and was up playing with his siblings by the time school was out.....4 hours post op. We did have a problem with the T3 giving him the crazys and he broke his splint shortly after dinner.....they called Dr. Nath at 3:00 am and gave him benedryl so that he would sleep.....finally. Splinting was trying for me, but he did fine, but it took 3 child life specialists to keep him occupied.....BTW, he was 14 months aold when he had mod. It was a pretty easy time for him...but lets remember all kids are different !

Yup, he was running down the end of the hall to see the fish and ride in the cars. His iv just about fell out. By the time we left the hospital we didn't have to give him any more medication, he did great. The hardest times for us during his surgeries is when he first woke up. Both days by the next day he was back to himself. As soon as we got home after mq he learned he could use his splint and would knock his sister in the head with it. Try to relax (I think kids pick up on parents nervousness no matter how hard you try to hide it)
Good luck.

Cindy, It is fun that you mention learning to use that splint as a weapon, my kids and my husband and I had more bumps and bruises from that stupid splint....I say that lovingly, but man, those things hurt....Dr. Nath needs to make a family friendly version .

ohmygod - I forgot about that "weapon".....I was sore everywhere whenever Maia slept with us - my face took one heck of a beating...and now her arm will be straight out at the side???? when she gets into bed, I'll have to get into hers... she already broke my nose a month ago...I'm not going to survive this one!! LOL LOL gee thanks for the memory...ACK!!!

When Justice got MQ Feb 24th her splint was already straight out to her side instead of up in the air. Her tenden was to small to mess with to straighten her arm so the dr felt it best to make the splint straight out. Now she can bend her arm straight it doesnt stick. Justice was very mad at me and my husband right after surgery. She went to go play with her pretend game boy and she couldnt use her left arm so she went off on us. It didnt last long. The nurses were actually suprised how well she did she didnt even have to get any morphine at the hospital after we got our bed at the hospital. Like the other parents on here be careful when you lie down with your child. They dont even relise what there doing but then smack right in the face. The splinting process the day after surgery was long though. It takes like almost 2 hours not that long but it just seems like forever remember to bring your childs favorite toy animal or doll they will make a splint for them too. I like the bandage better that they put on the toys the day of surgery then the splint they made. Well good luck to you and your little tite. If you stay at the crown they have huge windows where your child can lay on the floor and enjoy the view. Plus the rooms are huge so there is lots of space for your luggage. Take care
