Mariella needs secondary surgery...

Our appointment in Boston today with DR Waters went as expected. He said that Mariella does indeed need secondary surgery. We have an appt for an MRI to look at her shoulder joints set for May. At that time DR Waters will go over the results of her MRI and from there we will decide if secondary surgery will be done soon or later down the road. He said he will go by how formed her shoulder joint is now. If it looks like there may be problems going on now or something that may happen very soon he will do the surgery asap...if the joint still looks well he will wait a while. I talked to the nurse about sedation for Ella during her MRI. It gets me so nervous! She said that Ella will feel drunk for almost a whole day after the MRI! Poor thing! I guess I will start preparing myself now for what is yet to come.
Well, I just wanted to share the news with you all.

Sorry to hear that she needs a secondary surgery. It does sound good that he's consistent in being cautious in when to perform an operation.

We go in this Monday morning to see him for my son Jason's 6 month checkup. I hope he thinks that Jason is progressing as expected at this point in his recovery.

Krista,

Sorry to hear your news but reassure yourself with the knowledge that she will gain more function as a result of the surgery and the long term results will be worth it.

Krista, I am so sorry to hear that Ella needs surgery.
We went through the same thing last year. Justin had his MRI at Boston last January. It is a rough day but the nurses there were wonderful. Justin had his surgery last February. He is having an MRI on May 12th to see how things look post-surgery. I know we have emailed before. Feel free to email me directly with any questions and maybe I can put your mind a little at ease.
