My daughter is nearly 15 months old and is falling a lot. I have asked her PT about a helmet or some sort of protective head thingy especially for when she is outside, walking on the pavement!
Can you please tell me where I would look to find what there is available. I don't really want her to have to wear a big helmet. Avery's PT is faxing some pages from a catalogue to me but I just checked out their web site and don't really see anything for less that $150 or that is small enough.
Thanks. I love having this resource/support!

Re: Head Safety
I guess the other thing I wanted to add is that Maia started walking at 22 months and she fell ALL the time. And as she gained more confidence and got better at walking- she STILL fell all the time...every few steps actually. She got evaluated by a PT and they fitted her with orthotics. She immediately stopped falling. She wore them for about 6 months and it stabilized really well and she stopped wearing the orthotics. Now- she's almost 5 and she's falling a lot again - so she'll be re-evaluated for new orthotics. The orthotics fit into her shoe - you couldn't even see them and it made a world of difference...she has left leg weakness and her toes were turned in (meaning that her whole leg was turned in) and the orthotic made the foot sit in a neutral position so that the leg would get more balanced. It was really great.
Also - no matter what helmet you get - it's not going to cover your sweety's face! And face down they always go!
good luck,
francine

Re: Head Safety
oh man
the bruise line
thats what we used to call the line of bruises accross Maxs head from falling and not putting his arm out to catch himself,
I used a toddler bike helmit when he climbed the trees and when we rode bikes, not sure but thats alot less pricey ~under 20$, Walmart.
Look for the baby/toddler sizes.
