New to the internet so have just come accross this site. I am 35 and lost the use of my most of my arm 18 years ago. I do have fairly good movement in my shoulder, slight movement in my tricep and I am able to move the muscle in my bicep but far to weak to even attempt to bend my elbow. When I had my accident the doctors told me to accept it and make the most of my life using 1 arm. This I have done but after reading various messages in this newsboard I am surprised to find to there is surgery being performed on this type of injury. Well it wasn't in my day. Any adice would be appeciated.

Hey Scotsman welcome to the board. Where in Scotland are you?? Im in Wick up in Caithness.

I think when you are looking for surgery to get any real success out of it, it has to be done within the first year to 2 years unfortunatly. I avulsed c5 c6 c7 and had them all grafted and have gained toog ovement in my shoulder and my bicep and tricep have started working still very weak though.

My accident was on the 15th march 2002 and i had surgery on the 17th may 2002 and 11th december 2002 so i am still a newbie lol.

If you have any question at all just ask on the board or email someone. my email is kevin_anderson84@tiscali.co.uk but you can see peoples email addresses by clicking on there nick names

Thanks for the quick reply and good advice. I'm Originaly from Edinburgh but moved to Dunfermline over a year ago.
How are you coping? It's been such a long time for me since my injury (over half my life) that I tend not to think to much about it. For you it must be still quite fresh. Did you or are you getting much help from the so called professionals with reagards to pain relief and rehabilitation?

I had part of the lattissimus muscle re-routed from my back to my arm to help it bend due to a tbpi about 4 years ago. E- mail if you have any questions. I don't think you are ever to old for this operation, but it is up to a year recovery.Maybe hear from you soon.
