Post-Op Advice for Flying

I'd like to share some info. / advice on flying with a small child post-op based on our experience. We flew Southwest airlines and they do not assign seats. This worked out well for us b/c we were able to take advantage of pre-boarding. On our return trip, we waited in the seats closest to the pre-board area and got into the 1st spot in line when they announced that passengers could begin to pre-board. This enabled us to have our pick of seats. Since Nicole had the Capsulodesis surgery and her left arm was splinted out to the side as far as her elbow (then straight up), we had to seat her with her right arm by the window. We also wanted to get more roomy seating, such as bulkhead seats. Well, on our plane, there weren't any bulkhead seats, but the front 5 seats on the right side of the plane were 3 seats facing forward directly across from 2 seats facing backward (toward all the passengers). We took the 3 facing front. Had anyone sat in the 2 seats facing back, it would've been a bit crowded, but no one sat there b/c of that. Let's face it, how many people are going to want to sit facing everyone, and directly across from someone over 6' tall and also across from a toddler?!
When our plane made one stop, most of the passengers got off and others got on the plane. It was a full flight, but still no one sat in those seats. Might I add that during the boarding period, I let Nicole dance between our 3 seats and sing, talk, etc. as loud as she wanted!! I think everyone took one look at the empty seats, the lack of legroom, and our loud toddler in a huge splint and said "no thanks" and kept going! Once the flight was to start, I told Nicole she did a great job, but it was time to use her indoor voice. Haha! Just thought I'd share! On a serious note, though, I think that Southwest will workout well for most since you'd be able to pre-board. Hope this helps. -Tina )
