Help soon! In San Diego facing insurance roadblocks?

My wife and I are in the midst of trying to secure our primary care physician's adamant support for our child getting out-of-state assessment/surgery in Texas for our boy's brachial plexus injury.

We are looking for other parents in So Cal who can relate to our frustration in trying to get complete cooperation with the doctor and insurance company in getting approved.

If anyone has experiences to aid in our getting what is best for our son, please respond!

Time is running out, and the benefits of surgery past 7 months are greatly less than if we can get it done as planned next month.

Thanks,
Matt & Karen

Hi Matt & Karen,

couple of things... call the support group leader(s) in California and see if they can help link you with other families in California...

you'll find the list here: http://ubpn.org/awareness and go into the Worldwide Support Group listing

And also call George Fleites at the TCH business office and he might be able to help you out as well. His number is 713-798-1186.

I didn't quite understand your post, however. Is the doctor adamant against TCH or for it? If he's against it, can he tell you why and maybe we can help arm you with stuff to convince him?

Good luck and hope it all works out for you,
George is really nice - I hope he can help you,
francine

ps - I've passed this post onto another family I am aware of in your area who might be able to offer you some assistance.

Hi Francine,

Thanks for your urgency in the response time. Matt and I both appreciate it. To answer your question, the doctor isn't necessarily against TCH in Houston but he says that "he isn't informed enough" to give us the letter of support that we need to get our son in the door. I have presented tons of information that I have looked up on the net as well as information that our therapist has offered and he still won't budge. He seems to think that the only reason that we want to go is because I feel that it is best for our son, not because it is the best option for him. Any information that you can offer to help arm us would be completely appreciated as we meet with him tomorrow for round two of convincing.

Thanks,
Karen

Another thought that I wanted to add was that Matt and I received the denial letter from the insurance carrier yesterday and they have quotes from the neurosurgeon in San Diego saying that he informed the family of blah, blah, blah (I don't have the letter with me). That was a bit infuriating because he never was the one that even told us about the MRI that was done.

We are currently in contact with George and you are right, he is great. He is the one that has told us to prepare these letters of support. The first group of letters that I gathered, I failed the mission. So, now it is Matt's turn tomorrow.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks again,
Karen

Francine:

That is funny about Connie because I didn't know who you had given our name to but I ended up getting her information from a different website. I called her and then she informed me about you passing our information her way. It is good to know that everyone is on the same page so to speak. Thanks again for all of your help!

Karen
