Lack of suppination and external rotation

My son Joshua, now 7 months, has come a long way having started therapy at five days old. He was progressing wonderfully and now things have come to a pause. He still has no signs of suppination and external rotation. We're thinking of taking him to TCH for an consult. Any suggestions.....

Taking him for a consult is a good thing. They certainly know their stuff.

The other thing I wanted to tell you is that supination doesn't come in until they are about 11 months old (in the normal developmental ladder) - so there's time for that. But if there is severe internal rotation then there may be other things at play... so it's best to get Joshua checked out.

I beleive that developmentally babies don't supinate or externally rotate until after about 12 months of age, as at their whole world is centered around thier face and the immediate surroundings.
My child could not supinate until at least 14 months and external rotation was much later at about 18 months

suppination is the last to come in, so is external rotation, not even with surgery will these things be 100% either, My son's biggest visible gains (besides the ones he got when his arm finally moved) were after he began crawling around, even if it wasnt real crawling all the way, the weight bearing really helped, If you have surgery now you will never know what came in as a result of surgery wouldnt have come in if you had just given it a bit more time,

Thanks for your reply. Did you opt for surgery? The doctors do not feel that he needs surgery at this time (seven months) but maybe modquad down the road.
