Dole BPI joke on TV - made my mouth drop!

Last night I was watching tv - it was really late and I was watching (I think) FOX... there was an advertisement for one of those sitcoms (haven't the clue on which one - my mind shuts down) but Lou came over and we were talking and we both looked at the tv for this one ad - don't know WHY we did... but there were these two guys and one pretty woman came up to them and the one guy who had on a sling (injured arm in some way) started taking the sling off so that the woman wouldn't think anything about it.... But as the woman walked by his friend points out to him that his fist is still clenched (he can't open it) so he stuck a pen in there and told him that now he can be like Dole!

Gosh - I felt like someone punched me in the gut.... like is this the kind of stuff that Maia is going to experience out there and all of a sudden I felt this rush of sadness and shock.

(If you don't know it- Dole often keeps a pen in his hand, I guess to sort of lessen comments about his contracted hand.)

[big sigh] the world out there needs to be educated big time.

The world sure does need some educating, doesn't it, along with some sensitivity and compassion as well. That kind of stuff makes me angry and just so sad. Errrrrrr.....

BTW:
Senator Dole keeps a pen in his hand because it is his right hand. This way, people will not be inclined to want to shake his bpi hand. He shakes people's right hand with his left.

claudia

ps. the ad sounds idiotic

claudia - it IS one of those idiotic shows and that is why I was so surprised that I was drawn to actually watching the advertisement...and right in the middle of a conversation. It was like someone said WATCH THIS and then my mouth dropped. Sick stuff.

I liked the idea I read that Kath wrote--tape one of your arms so you can't raise it over your head, put it behind your back ,strighten your elbow or turn your hand over. Do it for ONE day--- no I don't feel sorry for myself--but it sure gets frustrating when people snicker about something that is the fault of a alzy, incompetent Dr. If just once some of these people would try to brush their hair, put a box on a shelf, get change --- I'd love to see it!! Dole probably likes the publicity--good or bad--by the way. Pat

We saw that add last night too!!! I was so ticked off.... I not only found it offensive but for a main stream channel... not cable.... not PC at all.....

I really wonder if we should not call the station and ask if they thought that it was so funny why not give us equal time... I thought it was on one of the three major networks... either cbs or abc... new sitcom.....

I will watch for it and I will call the network .... that is even better then a letter... but I will follow up with a note too.... Just have to find the right station...

This isn't about the Dole ad although I find it appaling but it does have to do with how insensitive people can be.

My grown son and I who is TBP were out shopping for his Christmas gifts, which is difficult for him to do alone. I was helping him pick out things for his niece and nephews. We stopped at Burger King for lunch and he said I'll pay. When he gets money out I really notice the difficulty he has so much so that I even bought him a money clip thinking it would be easier. Anyhow as he cannot count his money out he sort of holds it in his hand and lets it fall on the counter and then picks out what he doesn't need. The dumb B____ behind the counter says to him why didn't you hand me that money. Then she goes on to say how rude he was. He grumbled to me, but made me realize that he has put up rude remarks like that before and rather than get into a big fight with the slob, he took his stuff and we ate. I could tell it ruined both or our days cause it made me feel bad for him and it upsets him.

Sorry to be blunt Pamela and anyone else, but if it had been me, I would have told the miserable S.O.B. to go shove her burger right where the sun DON'T shine...if you get my meaning! ;0)

I break into a sweat at the grocery store. They want the store card--digging in my wallet really hurts my hands--anything that touches them does--then you get the dirty looks if they are short handed and you don't start bagging your own groceries. I do it--but I am slow and clumsy--I drop things and of course that makes me more nervousWhy do people get enjoyment out of someones pain???? Pat
