My daughter had mod quad and bi-cep lengthening at the same time at TCH in August. At the time Dr. Nath said she would need the bi-cep lenthening procedure done 2 more times over her lifetime. Has anyone else gone through this because I talked to Lisa at TCH this week and she said that sounded odd to her. Anyone know anything about it? Thanks!

My daughter had biceps lengthening about 10 months ago. Since her biceps are not strong, her triceps took over... We have used botox to give her biceps some time to work by itself. I highly recommend it. Physiatrists are the doctors who usually do this. If you find one with extensive botox experience in CP kids, they can do it in BPI kids too.
I don't know where you live, but you could call Dr. Maureen Nelson (who used to be at TCH) and ask her about it. Her number is 1-704-355-4330. If you are near New York, you can email me and I will give you the number of the doctor I used. I was rather frightened by botox at first, but now I am a proponent.
I think it is an exellent tool in the treatment "tool box."

I have been told by one of our bpi specialist (not at tch) that over time there can be a tendency for the contracture to reoccur, since the same mechanisms that created it in the first place still exist.
I may be considering this surgery someday and would like to hear from others as well.
