I think motorcycles should come with a TBPI warning! Everytime i come on the Tbpi post i always read motorcycle, motorcycle, motorcycle. It is a very inocent activity as all you effect know but it can go wrong!
I think you guys have a MUCH harder time than the OBPI. I am right obpi from birth. Im 17 and from Scotland too. Cos well we are born like that and learn to compensate thruout our lives and like all of a sudden youz have to dramatically change your lives to ajust to your injury. it must be really hard. iv jst read a post about a guy havin his arm amputated and he thinks its better, i would think that was horrific but i suppose i dont understand what you go thro really.

Hey Michelle i am 18 and also from scotland i have a right TBPI and have had it 10 months now and motorcycles are very dangerious but suprise suprise it was a motorbike that caused my BPI. I found it hard at the start to live with but as time goes by and surgery has been done and you have been told by proffesionals what your arm is going to be like at the end you learn to live with it and start looking into the future but i dont believe we have had it harder than you have.My surgeon Proff Birch has said i will get 60-75% back which i really am looking forward too lol.One thing i find the worst is the lonleyness of this, I am the only person where i live with this injury and to talk i come on here but unless you are actually meeting people it does get very lonley sometimes.I avulsed c5 c6 c7 which were all repaired and now the hardest part the waiting as am sure you will all agree but 17 years for you Michelle must be sooooooooo hard. But i like to see someone like you showing hope as it comforts the reast of us somewat thank you

Yeh. I see Dr Hems in the Victoria infirmary.I jst saw him on monday for the 1st time. He is very nice. C5 and C6 are my effected nerves. MAN! do i agree on the lonliness. i dont feel so lonely now bcos i have all these ppl to talk to but i only found these boards about 6months ago. So, where in Scotland are you from?
I would totally make sum stickers. My friend wanted to get a motorbike and that is the first thought that went thru my head that he could end up with an arm like mine so i didnt let him...oh the power. but its really scary to think of the amount of ppl injured by a bike. Its really scary. its even worst thinkin of a DOCTOR injuring you. However, its all dun now and we cant jst ponder on these thoughts.

Yeah your just like me then i think i found this site about 1 month ago so i am feeling beter but at weekends and that i feel a bit lonley but we just av to push on. I live right up at the very very top of scotland just beside john o groats so about 300miles north of you Michelle lol.

Just like to say that altho I was riding a motorcycle when I got my bpi, I don't consider that to be the cause. I think the 16 wheeler that came onto my side of the road and tried to chew my right arm off to be the cause of my bpi. I've always thought about it like that-mind you, I'm still pondering what to say when one of my kids wants a motorcycle-my dad's still riding the bike he bought at 18 in his 74th year and my kids think the sun shines-well you get the picture! One of them's bound to want to emulate grandad......half of me says NOOOOOOOOO and the other half says-go for it, it's the most amazing experience. I guess I'll cross that bridge when we come to it, the main thing is none of them are showing signs of wanting to drive a 16 wheeler....thank god!

Hi Michelle...motorbikes aren't dangerous, but the riders are vulnerable there is the difference...mostly, its other road users who are dangerous ;0)

I have had a survey up on the internet for a couple of years now, and part of it has been about how and where people were injured, and yes, road traffic accidents involving motorbikes comes up more often than anything else where BPI's are concerned, but my small amount of research has proved that in a very substantial number of cases, it is the fault of other road users, either partially or completely. (I believe that the official stats for the U.K. also have shown this is the case.) This includes things like deisel being spilt on the roads right thru to the usual excuse of "Sorry mate, I didn't see you ..." (SMIDSY for short...)

More and more cars these days are fitted with air bags, side impact protection and many other so called safety devices that drivers now have a false sense of security, and do not drive with the care attention that they should do at all times. Bike riders have to ride defensivly to survive; in other words, treat every other road user as a complete idiot; at least, that's how it is in the U.K. Is it any different in the U.S? I would love to know...come on peeps!

Sorry if it seems I'm having a go at you Michelle, I am definitely not..you have made a very valid observation..it's just one of my pet subjects; how and why people see bikes as dangerous.

Well....youv jst taught me something new! I didnt realise that these people were injured by other vehicles. I can remember jenny tellin me about her accident once tho. I always thought it was like they had no protection like you do in a car (seatbelt, airbag, doors, windows) and they were the 1st thing to touch the ground if they fell off. That was always my impression and now i know better! Thank you very much!
