Matthew has been to his reflexologist twice now, his therapists are extremely pleased with the results. She also does energy work, tissue massage and myo-fascial release. Since his first visit he has no more "crunchies", his wrist is no longer dropping down, and his shoulder blade is in a much better position. He has started using it more without hesitation. He has much more elbow extention and hold his arm more naturally. His toes used to be all crunched together and now his toes are relaxedand look normal for the first time ever.

Cindy, did you initiate reflexology & mayofacial release or did dr. recommend? Just interested for Peyton.

Re: Update on Reflexologist
Patti,
None of Matthew's docs ever recommended any of the alternative things we do. But when we mention what we are doing they tell us not to chage a thing. They won't recommend anything that's not scientifically proven. However based on his recovery his therapists are recommending alternatives to other patients.

Re: Update on Reflexologist
Cindy, thanks! I was wondering because none of Peyton's doctors have recommended alternative therapies, but I have been reading everyone's posts about how successful alternative therapies can be. Does your insurance cover any of the reflexology/mayofacial release?

Re: Update on Reflexologist
Pattisy - myofascial release can be covered if done by a PT. You can contact the John Barnes Institute and they can probably give you a listing of PT trained in MFR in your area...

I've never seen reflexology covered before. But it's something that you can learn how to do pretty easily. You can start by just reading a book about it and becoming familiar with the concept and working on feet.

Re: Update on Reflexologist
Pattisy - or just ask your current therapists if they do it...
Re: Update on Reflexologist
Matthew's pt does the mfr but she doesn't encorporate the energy the way his reflexologist does and I think that makes a huge difference. The mrf is covered when it's done under his pt session, but the reflexologist is not covered by insurance, neither was the acupuncturist. Funny how the things that enhanced his recovery the most aren't covered. But if they continue to help his recovery I'll sink every dime I have to help him.
