splints to assist crawling

I was wondering what people have found effective to help their child learn to crawl. Joshua is 8.5 months old, he's had nerve graft surgery, he can weight bear a little at his shoulder (not at elbow), and his wrist still flexes in a lot when weight bearing.
The one PT recommended an air splint. The smallest size in infants is 8". Josh is a big boy, but when I measured his arm, it seems like that might be an inch too long for crawling.
Also, has anyone used a crawling splint recently that holds the wrist in a cocked-up crawling position?
Thanks for any crawling tips you can offer.
